Superman flies above Mt Fuji in 'Man of Steel' poster for Japan

Superman flies above Mt Fuji in 'Man of Steel' poster for Japan TM & (C)DC COMICS. (C)2013 WARNER BROS. ENT. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

TOKYO —

From next week, posters for the Warner Bros film “Man of Steel” will have a different look in the lead-up to the film’s Aug 30 release in Japan.

In the posters, Superman, played by British actor Henry Cavill, 30, is seen flying over Mt Fuji. This is the first time that a poster for a Superman movie has been changed for Japan since the first Superman film was released here in 1979. Changing the design of a poster is a complicated process as Hollywood strictly controls such matters.

This time, however, only Japan (among 70 countries where the film has been released) was allowed to make an original poster, according to a Sports Nippon report.

Next Thursday, Cavill, co-star Russell Crowe and director Zack Snyder will visit Tokyo for the Japan premiere.

They should have had him flying over Dai-Ichi in Fukushima. Japan is becoming more famous for that than Mt. Fuji.

The fact that this was the only country that had the poster changed to something a bit closer to home just goes to show how ignorant and/or isolated and sheltered Japan is to the rest of the world.

      No Japan-bashing please.

Does the film feature action in Japan? If not, it's a stupid, misleading poster.

Very cool and smart advertising, everyone that I know is going to see it. I might wait a week due to the lines.

No, it's called good business sense. I see you don't have a grasp of advertising.

    The movie sucked. Don't bother.

Solution, don't watch the movie within the city. I have never waited in a line to see a movie in the suburbs or countryside.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH That reminds me of the scene in which Superman (3) straightens the leaning tower of Pisa LOL

I remember watching Superman on TV back in the fifties in Japan when I was a kid and the Mole Men episode was the scariest. Where does Clark Kent change into his Superman Costume these days?

Hey, it's a designated world heritage that all of Japan is now proud of, so this poster will make many proud to go and see the movie. It's advertising, bottom line. Doesn't matter that the movie most likely does not feature Japan or any Japanese, the poster is made for the Japanese consumer, and they will eat it up. Quite frankly I hate when they change the posters, and in many cases it can indeed be misleading.

No John Williams' score. Dragons?? Odd dynamic between the two star spangled lovers and no white robes on Krypton. The original is much better. 'Guilty' of being mediocre. Superman Returns was better.

The Japanese are not stupid, they will just feel insulted.

If Superman can fly over the Empire State Building in NYC, he can fly over Mt. Fuji. Why not? Let's expand our imaginations , shall we? Life itself is already too hard. We do not have to make it harder than what it is. Hope you agree.

With the shape of things in the world today Superman movies are a great de-stressor & the poster is great!- Where can I get one of these?

They should have had him fly over the senkakus. That would have caused a stir.

I also think this was done because Warner Brothers has a fairly strong working relationship with several Japanese studios, and this was done by Warner Brothers as a gesture to (possibly) publicize that relationship. After all, some people forget that the much-lauded anime movie "Summer Wars" was distributed by Warner Brothers Japan for Japanese domestic release.

Agree with USNinJapan2. I saw this film yesterday and found myself snoozing. Needs more actions scenes. Same problem with "The Lone Ranger"

I haven't seen the film yet, but i have heard good reviews from friends and the local media. It's weird though that Henry Cavill is a British actor, it takes Superman away of the whole white, red and blue... but then again, you can sense the hand of Christopher Nolan in the film...

As for the poster, Superman can go anywhere, it makes for photography to design a poster like that, but then again, it can be misleading if they put Superman in a scenery in my country, it would be like a cheap advertising campaign

It's advertising. Intentionally misleading to lure people.

I can't tell from this poster, does Superman still wear red boots?

Doesn't look like SuperMan except for the chin. Shouldn't all movie posters have Mt. Fuji in the background? And what about the 1,000Yen fee = I think SuperMan needs to pay up.

So what you are saying is that it needs to be a Michael Bay film?
