Takeshi to be given 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at Moscow film festival

TOKYO —

Film director and comedian Takeshi Kitano, 61, will be given a “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the Moscow International Film Festival next Thursday, his agent said Friday. Anton Dolin of the festival said, “Takeshi Kitano is a unique phenomenon of cinema. A super-nova that appeared in the European and then in American sky in the mid-1990s and is still unbearably bright.”

Kitano will attend the festival for the award. Six of his films will be shown there.

I wonder which Takeshi turned up, the respected international movie director or the locally-famous sadistic comedian! It is sometimes difficult to accept these characters as being one in the same person.

Whatever happened to "Zatoichi 2"? There was a story a while back in which Takeshi-san 'supposedly' said he was already shooting exteriors.
