Three of Jackson's brothers perform tribute concerts in Tokyo

TOKYO —

Tito Jackson, Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson—three of the original Jackson Five—held the first of two tribute concerts to their deceased brother Michael at the National Stadium in Yoyogi, Tokyo, on Tuesday night. The second concert will take place Wednesday night.

The Jacksons have not visited Japan as a group since 1973. The trio, along with guest artists such as Japanese singer Ai, singing her tribute song “Letter In the Sky feat. The Jacksons,” Judith Hill, Tortoise Matsumoto, Juju, Crystal Kay, Kento Mori and Travis Payne, are taking part in the Michael Jackson Tribute Live, in honor of their brother who died from apparent medicinal drug complications in 2009.

During their visit, Tito, 58, Jackie, 60, and Marlon, 54, participated in the recording for the BS Asahi TV program “Best hit USA New Year’s Eve Special” (to be aired from 11:30 p.m. on Dec 31). On the program, they talked with veteran DJ Katsuya Kobayashi, 70, and shared their memories of their last live performance in Japan in 1973, recalling “those wonderful days with Michael.”

Prior to the concerts, the Jacksons visited an orphanage in Tokyo for children who lost their parents in the March 11 disaster, and made rice cakes for the children.

Meanwhile, Katherine Jackson, the 81-year-old matriarch of the family, announced at a news conference in Tokyo the formation of the Michael Jackson Foundation as a legacy of her son to help needy children worldwide. Jackson said her son loved Japan and added that the foundation would initially help children who suffered as a result of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The foundation will be run by the Japan Information Center under the Cabinet Office and its first project will be the construction of a theater for children in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

    sorry to by so cynical, but this is just another money grab from the jackson brothers. all they seem to do is live off of michael's glory. this tribute concert is just a way to make money for them. visiting the orphanage is just another cheesy way for them to tug at the japanese heart, and purse, strings. get real jobs tito, jackie and marlon.

    The Jackson bros are famous for money grabs. Not surprised.

    It may be money grabbing but as the article mentions, they are giving back to the community. Doing something is better than doing nothing and I'm sure there are many well paid entertainers in Japan (and across the world) who have barely lifted a finger to help the Tsunami victims, especially the children. The Jacksons get to relive their glory days and make people happy at the same time so good on 'em if they profit from it too. They are profiting from people who can afford tickets and to go to the concerts and giving back to the people who don't have much money and giving them something to do and hope for in life.

    **** you say they are just living off "michaels glory" but what you people must realise is that they WERE members of the Jackson 5... One of the biggest selling acts in history.... They were big as a group before Michael took his solo career.. So with them doing this show... It is for love and their right to do that.... It seams they get critisezed for anything they do..... They do a show for love and to remember what they had, and people slate them.... If they do nothing... People would say bad things about them also. They are all very nice people. And deserve the sucsess..... Les (England)

    No they are not. The people that donate are giving back to the community. They just got paid from the concerts and started a charity.

    @cl400

    how are they giving back to the community? the article doesn't mention any contributions or funds from this concert being diverted to victims of 3.11. it would be great if they donated at least 20% of the proceeds to helping victims. great, they visited an orphanage where none of the kids knew who they were. that's not helping victims. if they really wanted to help then actually go up to fukushima.

    and there have been tons of news articles about musicians and people in the entertainment industry helping since 3.11 so I don't know where that is coming from.

    Hey they made 50 yen rice cakes at an orphanage, bet that puzzled the kids when they were told they were going to be visited by big stars, were expecting AKB48 and these geesers showed up.

    Three of Jackson's brothers... you mean Jackson, Jackson and Jackson? Better if the "'s" is dropped from the headling.

    @rickyvee I doubt it's their choice where they make appearances and to who. Yeah I doubt many children knew who they were but at least they are still doing something, months after the disaster. And seriously, go to Fukushima? Would you suggest the same for Barcelona FC who are here now? Speaking of, I doubt all the kids who met Barcelona FC knew who they were too. Yeah tons of musicians, etc showed their face then... but who still does that now?
