Tommy Lee Jones in Tokyo to film more BOSS commercials

TOKYO —

American actor Tommy Lee Jones was back in Japan for a few days this week to film some new TV commercials for Suntory’s BOSS canned coffee brand. Jones filmed the commercials at Toho Studios in Tokyo. He is one of the few Hollywood stars to visit Tokyo since the March 11 disaster.

Jones, 64, has made more than 30 commercials and appeared in countless ads and posters for BOSS since 2006. His character—“Alien Jones”—is an extraterrestrial who takes the form of a human being to learn more about life on Earth (in particular, Japan).

Jones will next be seen in Japan in “The Company Men” (about corporate downsizing), which opens Sept 23, followed by “Captain America: The First Avenger” on Oct 14. He has just finished filming “Men in Black III,” and is set to appear in Steven Spielberg’s film “Lincoln,” to be released next year.

He must be earning a mint from BOSS. He even speaks a little Japanese in the most recent commercials playing the part of a high school teacher. Great actor.

The teacher ads are my favorite. When he yells "SPEAK UP" to the schoolboy trying ask out the girl.. Hillarious.

Love his cms too. My neighbor, being of Ainu ancestry, is a spitting image of him. BOSS should get him to do a CM with Tommy.

I love that major Western actors can come and do CMs for everyday products here when back home (at least at present), it would have a negative effect on their careers. I think for that reason they love doing them too (and the money they make) -- it's so out of the norm. The Tommy/Boss CMs are awesome.

The best one so far is the one where he starts out as a caveman trying to spear a mammoth, then works as a slave building pyramids in Egypt, then as a slave building the Great Wall of China, then finally as a slave working as a street construction worker in Japan, ha ha!

Another good one was the one when he dresses up as Santa to deliver some presents to some kids living in an apartment building and he meets the real Santa on the balcony, ha ha!
