Why would he reveal that? The ending was way better when you think he got shot right then and there.

although the actor who played him did........

You should never reveal this kind of thing if you didn't already in the show or film, or towards questions about a story or poem. Give the audience the need to stew it over in their heads and/or reach their own conclusions about what happens, with a sliver of doubt that lasts forever and keeps people interested. Once you say 'what happened' (ie. what the writer/director meant or intended) you slam the door on interpretation shut and leave only shallow people who want solid answers and lack imagination satisfied. The best answer to this question is something along the lines of: "Whatever you want to believe happened to him did."

A lot of people say that Chase deliberately did that ending just to cause talk, as the old saying goes. And he certainly made a lot of viewers scratch their heads....

As others have pointed out, since Gandolfini has already died, it is tantamount to the same thing. His portrayal of Tony Soprano was outstanding and made that show. Yes, a pointless thing to say indeed. Although unlikely as the article states, methinks there is a commercial interest in the comments.

Nobody likes a cliffhanger ending. If the show is over, the story needs to be resolved. I hate when writers do that. Sliders was bad enough.
