“Talent” Akina Minami appears in this commercial for one of Japan’s most popular gambling past-times—boat racing.
She is dressed in six different colored outfits—blue, white, green, yellow, black and red—in her role as the mascot character for the boat race competition taking place this week.

This ad has been around for months - and is annoying. I have no idea what dancing around as a cat has to do with racing.

Agree with Tmarie.
Many of the ads here are shot in long-versions and that either split up into multiple ads or trimmed per time-slot, etc. Cheaper that way especially when they use expensive talents or overseas actors.
BTW, It should be Akinya not akina.

This is a bizarre commercial. You get a bunch of women who would be very attractive if they behaved like women, and have them act like children dressed up in de-sexified cat costumes, to promote an event held on water - which cats notoriously hate.
Then you have to suspend disbelief and pretend the use of the syllable "Nyan" is in some way amusing.
Why don't the people here want women to look like women?

No, in the commercial she's dressed in a cat costume, and cats say "nya", so if she pretends her name is Akinya it becomes comedy gold, you see. Welcome to the world-famous sophisticated Japanese culture. Act like a baby and you're half-way to a showbiz career.

Eh, seems fine to me. Typical overly feminization I see everyday here among my students. I'm not so offended as others...........maybe I have a higher tolerance for this stuff. It is not overtly sexual, which seems weird to me.
