TV commercial of the week: Pizza-La

TOKYO —

Here’s the ad for Pizza-La’s new “Cream gratin pizza with crab and shrimp.”

“Talent” Mari Sekine (center in picture above) is the main character of the commercial. Sekine is a daughter of the famous “talent” (also comedian), Tsutomu Sekine, who is a fluent English speaker, and appears on various TV programs such as “1 okunin no daishitsumon!? Waratte koraete!” (Questions from 100 million people?! Laugh and stifle laughter!) and “ZIP!”

Responses for the commercial are “This is the best commercial ever,” “It’s so funny! How is it for you?” and so on.

I saw this commercial for the first time the other day (haven't turned on my TV in nearly half a year), and it is not AT ALL funny or interesting. They pull the same kind of ad all the time, be it crab or 'ebi-mayo'. To be frank, Japanese commercials in general are really sucking of late.

I couldn't stop laughing. When famous talent dance like a crab with a funny song I wet myself again and again. This commercial gives more and more meaning to my life.

I may be speaking for myself but its not that I hate corn, but there are some things that really don't belong on a pizza like mayonnaise, egg plant, tuna, nori (dried sea weed), and diced potatoes just to name a few.

I love this tv cm, but sorry, Pizza La, not my choice for good pizza here on the J islands.
