TV networks drop troubled Tomoko Nakajima Tomoko Nakajima

TOKYO —

Things are going from bad to worse for Tomoko Nakajima, 40, one half of the comedy duo Othello (along with Nahomi Matsushima).

Nakajima has been having financial troubles since April last year when she took time off from her regular TBS Saturday morning variety program “Shittoko!” due to “health reasons.”

According to Nikkan Sports, Nakajima is being sued by a real estate company for more than 6.5 million rent in arrears for her Tokyo apartment and office. The tabloid also said that Nakajima’s flatmate is a mystic woman who has gained control over her mind. Nakajima, whose weight is said to have ballooned, has dropped out of sight since late last year.

Nikkan Sports reported that TV stations in Tokyo and Osaka have dropped her from four programs that she used to be on, although guest hosts have been filling in for her since last year.

She is in trouble, she has been dropped by tv station but no plan to trace/rescue her by police or social organizations. so sad.

Obviously, she took time off for mental health reasons. When she did that though she should have secured her finances, such as moving into a cheaper place.

I think it sucks the media do this. People get stuck in ruts.

When she did that though she should have secured her finances, such as moving into a cheaper place.

Actually, it appears that she has transferred a large sum to the "mystic" woman noted in the story. There are very few facts around this event sadly, but show colleagues are commenting that she was acting strangely (intense, and hiding seconds before a live broadcast) shortly before taking extended leave.

    She needs help quickly.

I think 40 is a common breaking point. I read the average age at suicide is 41. I am 41. Gots to be careful and hold things together.

hope she recovers, health and financial wise.

Time to get married ($$$$)... and none of that prenuptial jargon either!

I really liked her when I first saw her on TV. I hope she can pull through.

Who is the Mystic who has taken over her mind? That is where the problem lies.

Nakajima’s flatmate is a mystic woman who has gained control over her mind

Possibly the most awesome thing I have read in weeks.

Who is the Mystic who has taken over her mind?

They suspect she is a former Aum member.

I like it how they just threw in that nugget about her getting real fat. As if that has anything to do with her situation. Hey if I had a nickel for every 40-something chick that gained some junk in the trunk I'd be able to buy one of those nice new white Audi A4s.

They suspect she is a former Aum member.

At the least, she sounds like a nasty nut. Shame, I liked Nakjima when she was on TV.

Don't know this comedienne but I think it's nice that JT posted a pretty picture of her back in her heyday instead of a present one where she is fat... This mystic who is guiding Nakajima must be a very good or have something over Nakajima to be still on the payroll. Nakajima must still have money or she might have put the mystic down as the beneficiary on her life insurance; why else stay?

instead of a present one where she is fat...

Actually, it looks to be a rather recent photo. Overwieght is a relative term.

Hope Nakajima-san snaps out of it, and if this mystic lady is taking her for a ride, that her other friends or family will try and rescue her. Why isn't her immediate family all over this? These mystic ladies do have powerful influence on people and know people who base their whole life decisions based on what they say, potentially very dangerous if the mystic person is a hoaks.

    smithinjapan

Well, if she can't put in the work she should be dropped, I guess, though by the sounds of it she needs some mental help. Hope she can get it and get back in the game.

Why isn't her immediate family all over this?

Apparantly (according to Fuji TV), the intercom to the appartment has been disconnected, phone too I believe. There were suggestions that he mind control extends to rejection of family. Also (again Fuji TV I think) there has been money transfer in the region of 3,000man en, although this was very vague in the report, I didn't catch how or why.

I think escalation to courts was a deliberate decision by the appartment owner (also a geinoujin) to try and force the situation to a resolution as oposed to getting money back. The danger she is in seems very real.

    Overwweight is a relative term.

To be clear, I do not think she is overweight.

I give it to the poster here today. I don't think one person has said a negative thing about her yet, and have in one way or another, kind of been routing for her to come back to the real world. I hope those that are close to her feel the same as us posters here on JT. She needs the help.

If there is an Aum connection here, you can bet the authorities are going to be very interested.

Many sick and twisted cults here in Japan, me thinks she is being sucked into one right now.

  • 1

    lucabrasi

Very suspicious. Weight problems (loss and gain) and bizarre behaviour are often effects of psychoactive drugs. I wonder if this so-called "mystic" isn't more of a part-time pharmacist.

Nothing is sure in life, even the job you have today. So, just because you are popular and make so much, a little restrain in spending can help when under the weather.

    tokyokawasaki

I bet having her private affairs printed and shown in the media is really helping her. Yes that was sarcasm...

  • 0

    gogogo

Gained control of her mind? seriously?

  • 0

    noirgaijin

This picture shows her at about 52 Kg. She is said to be at 86 Kg these days by what's being said in the media. The weight gain was in a very short period. The picture of her that has been circling around on different TV programs looks like the neck of a sumo wrestler.

I hear that Nakajima has been turned by the mystic woman against her former comedy partner, and that Nakajima said "I don't even want to see her face."

  • 1

    rickyvee

i wonder if she got conned by one of those goofy women near the train station asking women if they can read their palms.

can I learn how to control minds?

I like it how they just threw in that nugget about her getting real fat. As if that has anything to do with her situation.

Meaning that her problems are serious enough that her health is suffering, or that she doesn't care , when she always used to look nice.

The mystic or psychic or whoever she is has moved her family members into Nakajima-san's office, and she lives with her in her mansion. She hasn't been able to contact her parents in months, nor they her. As long as it looks as if she doesn't object to any of this, the police can't just barge in. Her parents were thinking they could see her at court but she didn't appear. The mystic is a liar, she promotes herself as a consultant to the stars, and to politicians, but that was all debunked on TV this week. She has bilked others out of money as well.

    presto345

Sad indeed. I imagine there are many who'd like and/or be able to help her. But if Nakjima herself does not request it she remains doomed. I feel sorry for her and her family.

The tabloid also said that Nakajima’s flatmate is a mystic woman who has gained control over her mind.

    What? lol...

If that's a "fat" photo, I'd hate to see her back when she was "thin". She looks very healthy in that photo. (Unfortunately, you can't photograph mental health.)

  • 0

She is getting fat and is doomed. They should get rid of her.

Am I the only person who thinks the coverage of this story has gone WAY too far?

Clearly the woman has personal and professional problems, but the extent of the morning TV shows raking through her recent moves, staking out her apartment, doorstepping her Mother etc. is going beyond reportage and into what I'd call harassment. She isn't accused of anything criminal as far as I can tell, she just hasn't paid her rent on time and has become a recluse. Maybe the landlord has top-level media connections, that might explain it...

Give this poor woman a break, and let her either solve her problems and come back, or else fade into obscurity, but 10 minutes of trivial speculation and conjecture every day is 10 minutes too many, and I'm sick of it.

The TV coverage is par for the course for a celebrity scandal. Imho, it is sad to see this slow-motion personal train wreck, but there is nothing anybody can do about it. There are always people who fall for scammers and cults, but we only get close-up reporting if it happens to a celebrity.
