I don't need a TV or YouTube for this, my wife volunteers whenever she's in the mood.

I don't think she's up to the task of really portraying an angry woman. But many guys enjoy being abused, so it'll probably be popular.

Since anger is generally less acceptable -- Japanese find it difficult even to recognise the angry face in Ekman's six "universal emotions -- it is only generally expressed towards intimate others. In other words, yes, by being angry with who ever is behind the camera the x-nude model is expressing the punch line, "I like you," in a much more compelling, beguiling way. If she just said "I like you" then it would appear totally phatic (社交辞令). I think Sensei258's wife likes him lots.

Am I missing something here? If my attention wavers when someone is talking pancakes I'm the dumbass? The only Dumbasses I can see are those who came up with this idea and even more so those who would actually watch it.

Glad I never watch Japanese TV as this sounds worse than all the rest of it.

Risa is brilliant in this. The video was hilarious, alluring and disconcerting at the same time — and almost exactly what my wife looks and sounds like when she rants.

I am sure this puts the fear of God into the minds of many Japanese viewers who are painfully reminded of their monstrous moms and/or wives who are saccharin-sweet to the outside world, but ferocious behind closed doors.

Verbal abuse is also domestic violence and here we are encouraging women to do it.

I think this was inspired by a Japanese program called Geinokai Kire Onna Juku　(芸能界キレ女塾, loosely translated as "academy for teaching celebrity women how to blow their top"). The episodes start with a panel of men teaching a celebrity woman how to express her anger, and at the end of the segments the celebrity tries out her new skills on an unsuspecting male TV station employee.

Here is one segment that featured Risa Yoshiki, which I assume predates the "I Want Risa Yoshiki to be Angry at Me" series featured in this article. There was a PSA in Britian during the World Cup that spoke out against domestic violence. It seems that there is a spike in the UK during big soccer matches. So I guess those soccer hooligans really get riled up for the games.

As with other fads in Japan from TV, I wonder how long before everyday people begin doing just this same thing for everyday conversations and dealings with people. I see some of it from time to time but I guess this will just bring it to the fore front.

Really do not care if this is stupid or not, which it is, she sure is cute.

It is a program that will be screened at 0153 every Friday morning. It will last no longer than five minutes. I really cannot see why people have such a problem with it.

A new TV program seems set to carry this strategy to its illogical conclusion. Instead of enhancing the appeal of something men generally like or feel indifferent towards, broadcaster TV Tokyo’s idea is to create a miniseries that’s nothing but a good-looking girl chewing out the camera.

The times I have seen anger openly expressed in Japan is towards someone below the person on the social totem pole. There is no lack of that in Japanese companies or from customers towards customer service workers. Historically the husband-wife relationship was not equal but also a pairing of the superior/inferior, so a woman getting angry might give some the feeling of "haha you're cute when you're mad" also recalling the image of a hen-pecked husband making an inferior's outburst into comedy to diffuse its power.

This lady doesn't seem genuinely angry at all, obviously a performance...maybe that is part of the reason it's funny?

Sounds like a great concept for an interactive app - where you get to shout back and she reacts to your reaction etc etc.

Japanese media seems to be run on the principal that adding attractive women to anything makes it better.

This is said as though it wasn't the norm in practically every other country on Earth?

Regardless of what the primary intention of this program is, I would love to see something like this as a Japanese language learning course with transcripts and detailed glosses and descriptions of the pragmatic purpose of different complaints, as well as breakdowns for which language is masculine/feminine/slang/etc. There have been terrible slang books as far back as the 80s purportedly teaching all the dirty Japanese words, but I've yet to find anything that actually teaches the intermediate learner how to express anger in a way that gets them what they want. The pragmatics of expressing anger are different here and no matter how many new expressions I learn I still have trouble effectively using them.

This program no matter what it:s length is is a step in the wrong direction. Especially if you consider "gender equality" in this nation is so backwards. Women and men should NOT be allowed to abuse each other. Japanese police choose not to get involved in such matters which leaves men and women defenseless when things become violent.

@FPSRussia: Ver good points! Not to say that there is a sterotype of the docile Japanese woman, but to air this type of stuff on TV is on par with the "Jerry Springer" show in the USA. Fun to watch for those who have enough sense to seperate fact from fiction, but too many people can't do that and this will lead to some unintended consequences.

People like to talk about the effect of media (TV, music) on people. Take a look at some of the things that are picked up by mass culture based on what one sees or hears. In Japan, a place I have found to be not the most forthcoming in expressing emotions on a normal level, imagine what this show will do to those who can easily be swayed by the media.

All that ranting and raving ... and in the end she says she likes him! I guess that makes up for all the foul language she uses! She sure did not have me shaking in my boots . . .

So what are Japanese men over 35 supposed to do according to women? Wear sleeveless pullovers, go play golf and be boring from then on? Luckily people (incl. men over 35) are more diverse.

It's amazing how she looks great even when she's scowling and snarling... yum. As for the concept... well, anyone who takes it seriously needs to learn to separate fact from fiction. It's clearly a daft idea thought up for those who are still awake around 2am. Would I watch it? Once or twice maybe, out of curiosity but the concept isn't strong enough to sustain it. There will be imitators on TV and on You Tube... and probably that comedienne who wears a school uniform and fake eyebrows will do a send up on a variety show.

last time the NHK guy came around I said I dont watch Japanese TV its not interesting at all, get all my families TV from the internet overseas. Commercials like this just ad to my case. funny thing he hasnt been back since I told him that. Ill never pay for somthing I have no interest in watching

I forget who it was the other day on a thread about 'variety shows' who declared Japanese TV is far better than any Western TV, but I sure hope they enjoy this drivel while I finish off the last season of The Wire and rewatch some of The Sopranos and Breaking Bad.
