Van Halen with David Lee Roth to tour Japan in November

Hard rock group Van Halen will tour Japan in November for the first time in 14 years. It will also be 33 years since the band toured Japan with lead vocalist David Lee Roth.

This year, Van Halen started its "A Different Kind of Truth Tour" (the title of their album released in February) in the U.S. but in early June, canceled 32 tour dates for the rest for the summer.

In an interview with USA Today, Eddie Van Halen said, "The band will have completed more than 40 shows on this leg, and a lot of the canceled dates were in cities we already played. So in November we’ll hit Japan, and in the new year, we’ll possibly do something special, but I can’t talk about it.”

The scheduled dates are Nov 20 at the Osaka Chuo Gymnasium and Nov 27 at Tokyo Dome.

Tickets go on sale to Universal Music Metal Club members first, from June 27, and then to the general public from July 7. Tickets cost 12,500 yen, 11,000 yen and 9,000 yen.

He's Got Charasma!

I have seen Van Halen many times. Loved every show, except their last reunion with David Lee Roth. He sounded like a piano bar singer, singing his own tune to the Van Halen song's we all know and love. I say get that hippie off the stage. Give us back the old Van Halen. At least "Van Hagar" with Sammy was well worth the money. Eddie and Alex still awsome and great. Wolfgang not bad...Where have all the good times gone!

They must be in need for the cash, seems all these old rock bands always make a concert in Japan when low on the flow.. LOL But hey they were good. I grew up to Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Sting, and others but If AC/DC came, I would Go..

Diamond Daves voice seems to be a weak link, hopefully he gets stronger!

Tezbo, AC/DC were here a couple years ago, guess you missed it!

Saw the reunion concert in Toronto. Doesn't feel like a reunion as per say without Mikey. Wolfgang made mistakes and kind of downgraded the band. Otherwise it felt good to hear rock music being played loud again.

I saw the DLR band in Calgary... that was awesome.

I don't feel tardy.

I know you know I got no.... special plans to go to this one at 12 500 yen per seat.

Funny that their biggest hit, "Jump", featured keyboards, not Eddie's guitar.

Who wrote their lyrics, and what is a "record machine." Is the protagonist working at a factory that makes vinyl records or players? Maybe it's a reel-to-reel analog recorder? "Jukebox" doesn't fit into the hair metal vocabulary?

Prefer Sammy Haggar.....

Bon Jovi. Iron Maiden. I want to be a Universal Metal Club member. Bet you get to meet all sorts of interesting people.

Torafusu Torasan, maybe check out 'Ain't talking about love'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuyvT8nFMLY Raw and powerful, off the Van Halen album. BTW Tezbo, AC/DC rocked Saitama on the Black Ice tour. Awesome!

On behalf of America, I would like to pre-apologize to the good people of Japan for the lousy, dated music that will be inflicted on your nation. It's only for two days. Try to be strong.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Interesting....will they be performing together on the same stage or will there be two separate acts?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

2 dates... ?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Geez! I didn't even know these guys were still alive!!

0 ( +3 / -2 )

Def Leppard and now Van Halen. I can smell the peroxide and hairspray from here.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

US tour shortened/cancelled because they hate each others guts and cannot sell out venues. But willing to suck it up for a guaranteed cash bonanza in Japan. I opted out of seeing the VH reunion and went to the Scorpions show instead. No regrets - these guys still rock!

The album is good and I heard sales for the cancelled/postponed shows were also going pretty well (hard to believe otherwise). Wolfgang needs to grow in confidence as a musician, but geez people need to relax and be appreciative that he has kept the band together at all.

Jump wouldn't be Jump without Eddie's guitar.

telecaster@3:39pm - No apologies necessary, but a "You're welcome" might be in order.

Thats a miss. No one misses the 80s. The music sucked for the most part.

The whole reason for the original breakup was they had to strongarm Roth back into the studio to finish recording the "1984" album. Apparently, he had decided to vacation overseas in the middle of recording and did not want to come back and finish the album. He had some strange idea that HE was the reason for the band's success and the rest of the band should kowtow to him.

A lot of Van Halen's music with Roth onboard was just covers and when Roth decided he could do as well on his own, the covers followed him, so it became obvious who in the band was pushing these covers. I fear that now that he's back, the covers will soon follow.

Correction: I shouldn't say the WHOLE reason for the breakup was him bailing on the recording, it was more like the straw that broke the camel's back.

I think I'm just getting old as some of todays music just goes in one ear and out the other without leaving an impression. I'm an 80's person and loved all the glamour of that period. There were real personalities then - everyone knows who these people are. At least it was the golden age of pop stars that had style, that were original and you that could have fun listening to their music.

bring on the gang of four et al. if you want the worthwhile sounds from the los angeles sound of the 1980s.

On a serious note, I'm in my mid 40's so It think people in my age group mostly like Dave. Always thought Eddie and Dave were a good match, but I worked before in a studio with Eddie and I know first hand, he is NOT the most easy person to work with or get along with, the man gets worked up easy and is ready to curse you out if things don't go his way, add to that Dave's strong and sometimes self-loving ego and stubbornness, you are expecting for something to break down.

But Eddie can bring the worst out of people, the same with Hagar, he wasn't bad, but I always felt Hagar was best when he was solo, not to mention, the music lost a lot of it's hard edge and became somewhat of a softer, romantic Top 40 band I have a lot of respect for all of them, they all get props, but I have to say, at least with Dave and Eddie, if they could've been more civil (especially Eddie) I think they really could've created some serious hardcore hits throughout the late 80's and 90's.

Thats a miss. No one misses the 80s. The music sucked for the most part.

@Lizz

Sorry to say this, but speak for yourself, I think it all depends on how you grew up, but the 80's and especially the influx of the 2nd British Invasion , great Rock bands, Metal, Ska, New Ro, Gothic, Funk, and underground. UK, US and Aus were on a serious music epidemic high, producing hit after hit it brought out a slew of great music and memorable music, as for the fashion, you can get a point from me, but for everything else, music and TV was great. Honestly, what kind of music are we getting today? Kiddie pop, slandering women, using profanity everywhere, seems like you can't make a song without using curse words, partial nudity. Heck, I'll even give the 90's some credit. Strong RnB, Grunge, the revival of Disco...

I'm sorry, you have some artists making good hits, here and there, but generally, you just don't have the bands that can produce the constant stream of hits that were coming out back in the 80's. How many memorable songs that you can pull from your head from the 80's? Compare that to now. But as I said, it just depends on how you grew up, I was living between the States and Europe going back and forth and I miss those days a lot. Life was a lot simpler and more fun, and a lot less hatred towards one another.

I agree completely that's what it has come to. Everything is manufactured, nothing is natural like before. It's quite sad, really. There's a whole generation of people who have no clue as to what "real" music sounds like. The shit on the radio is pure crap. Everything that is reaching the top today is fake and manufactured to sell. Where is the passion? And the honesty? Where the image of the artists were more than just there to sell records? The real eccentrics? Who came up with something new because they were creative people? I think everyone that age feels the same way, certainly everyone I know. I feel sorry for kids today because I think they are missing out on something but of course they can't imagine a youth in the 70s and 80s anymore than I can imagine a youth in the 40s and 50s. With all the technology, and autotune and all that, makes music sound unreal--because it is. You could do a whole show with guitar and drums...the rest is all synthesizers and autotune technology.

Although I just heard a song by Justin Bieber and I never thought Id say this: but it is a good song in my opinion. And for some reason they auto tuned his voice. I wonder why they do that, because his voice isnt bad is it? Maybe we don`t recognize talents anymore because they polish them in every way possible to look and sound inhuman?

I've heard this elsewhere, but everytime I listen to a song from "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" I have a hard time reconciling that statement. "Black and Blue", "Pleasure Dome", "Man on a Mission" etc. definitely do NOT qualify as "softer, romantic, Top-40". Perhaps you were thinking of the lead singer after Hagar left but before Roth rejoined - Gary Cherone?

Culure Club, Duran Duran, Frankie goes to Hollywood. Right, they are all such natural bands from the 80s. And lets not forget the worse rock song of the decade, the Starship's City. Classic 80s rock.

Those of you that cling to the music of the 80s are like abused spouses that just cannot leave their mates.

By the way Van Halen has changed the words in Jump to fall since they are too old now to jump.

I cant get up, and nothing gets me up anymore. You got it tough. I've seen the toughest around. And I know, grandpa, just how you feel. You've got to roll with the walker to get to your meal Oh, can't you see me standing here? I've got my back against the dialysis machine I ain't the worst that you've seen. Oh, your to old to see what I mean?

Ah, I might as well fall. Fall! Might as well fall. Go ahead, fall. fall! Go ahead and fall.

I've never seen David Lee Roth with Van Halen but Sammy Hagar was great!

I very much disagree about some sentiment about 1980's music. It was a time of huge musical creativity. Sure, there was a lot of crap during that time but hasn't there always bad music during every decade? Disco was mostly gone and rock splintered into numerous genre's. Rap got going (for good and bad) and the use of technology in music grew tremendously. Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson (solo) hit it big in the 1980's. Many groups that started out in the 70's had huge success in the 80's including Van Halen, AC/DC, Journey, Def Leppard, and more. People have different musical tastes so the argument can never truly be settled. However, the 80's has had a huge impact on music to this day. What came after has been far less significant.

Diamond dave is running on one brain cell. He was arrested years ago for trying to buy marijuana at central park, New York. It's all for the money for him. He is a white punk on dope, with no voice....not there's to much wrong with that in the rock and roll world. But I'm not going to spend my hard earned money to go to Van Halen Karoke. Dave can't sing anymore...just a word to the wise......A fool and his Yen are soon parted...

Those of you that cling to the music of the 80s are like abused spouses that just cannot leave their mates.

When compared to what we have to choose from these days... the abuse is not from the '80's and instead is coming from current music - with a vengence. I only have to name one artist/song to prove my point:

Rebecca Black/"Friday"
