Concur with LFRAgain, I would imagine if the same happen to me, no one in my hood would be concerned about my whereabouts other than the landlord angry because the rent is overdue.

2weeks isnt long, come think about it!

Do all of you contact yr parents, siblings, etc on a very regular basis? Thought not, with families being more & more spread out its VERY easy for this to happen, off to go ring mom back home to say hi!

    GW,

Maybe not family if they live far away but there should be somebody you come into contact enough to recognize a routine. She was sick. Those are the times people usually make contact the most especially later in life. Nobody was checking in on her?

Yes, particularly because some of them live alone.

I saw Ms. Ohara in person once, many years ago, while shopping at a greengrocers. To avoid being recognized she did her shopping in sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat --- a sure way to make people look at you. I was struck by how tiny she appeared, only a little over five feet tall, and very fragile-looking even in her 40s. She worked hard at her profession and I am sure those who remember her will be saddened by her passing, all the more so by the lonely circumstances thereof.

I agree with you noirgaijin. I remember when I was living back in California, there was a guy a couple of blocks away who was found dead after several weeks. Turned out he was quite old and he had few relatives left. Terrible stuff.

    RIP Ms. Ohara.

I'd hope that the aircon was left running in her home... Otherwise a dead body in August? Wouldn't neighbours have noticed an odour even after a couple of days?

Poor Reiko. She was one of my favorite actresses.

Sad and heartbreaking story... she was a strong women, fought the disease alone without a man beside her.

RIP, Ohara-san. I'm sorry you were alone when you passed on; I hope you're at peace.

This tragedy is why I tell all family and friends to >SKYPE

  • Yelnats at 04:03 PM JST - 10th August

Message removal? That is messed up. I emphasized that family and friends should stay in contact through various means on line as this woman was dead for 2 weeks or longer and you remove that message administrator? duh. Guess the economy is still really bad.

  • helloklitty at 09:45 PM JST - 10th August

She was famous for ... ‘‘Love me a little and love me long,’’

    five minutes would be fine
