Who is the mystery person on poster for American movie 'In Time?'

Posters for the U.S. sci-fi movie "In Time" (to be released as "TIME" in Japan) have a mystery guest on them. On the right side is star Justin Timberlake. Normally, the left side would show co-star Amanda Seyfried. However, for the Feb 17 Japan release, Amanda has been replaced by a mystery Japanese celebrity whose face is hidden by a mosaic.

The Japanese celebrity was chosen to be the voice actress for Seyfried's part. Distributor 20th Century Fox is conducting a campaign for fans to guess who she is on the movie's official website. Hints are that she is a popular star in Japan, 25 years old and got selected for the role through rock, paper, scissors.

My guess is someone from AKB48. They have done just about everything else.

.....aaaand the winner gets what?

Guys, it's definitely Mariko Shinoda, she's distinctive because she's the only one in AKB1000000 who doesn't squeal and act like a child.

Oginome:

You sure about that? http://akb48-blog.blogspot.com/2011/02/mariko-shinoda.html

No, Mariko is not in the movie, just on the poster.

To me it looks like Anna karen.

Ian Duncan:

OK, I stand corrected. Still, she's a veritable paragon of maturity compared to the others in AKB48.

Off the top of my head, I'd put Akimoto Sayaka, Masuda Yuka, Sato Natsuki, and Matsui Sakiko in the not often squealing league. I would say Takahashi Minami, my oshi, is pretty mature too.

However, concerning the topic at hand...Why is Mariko in the movie poster? Does she do a voice in the dubbed version or something? Does she potentially have a part in an upcoming movie with Justin Timberlake? I'm wondering if this will make some kind of sense when the image is officially revealed to be her.

Who cares, voice over acting here is almost as bad as Chinese-B movies.

I hate watching any movie from any country in dub. I want to hear the original actor's voice and lines. And I am 100% ok with subtitles.

But if we believe the media in Japan, young people here are no longer able to read subtitles, so now we have to focus upon dubbed over voice acting that is often melodramatic and wraught with overacting. So who cares who she is?

seriosly, tkoind, you really are an over opinionated tool.

(She) got selected for the role through rock, paper, scissors.

Because selecting an actress based on talent would have been impossible?

My intelligence sources tell me that Shinoda Mariko has been chosen to do the voice dubbing (voice actress) for the movie "TIME".

Must be Mariko Shinoda, the only AKB48 girl that men can be fans of without being accused of being pedofiles.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

you folks obviously have too much time on your hands!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Gotta be one of AKB48's thousands of members.

Anyway, I hate the way they modify covers and posters here -- sometimes they literally mislead the viewers.

its that faxe man-made akb48 thingy

Looks like Aki Hoshino, but she definitely is not 25.

Sadly I believe it will be an AKB name, guaranteeing it wil be a hit at the cinema as all the TRUE AKB fans will have to see the film. Cynical move by movie promoter I think - and agree with tkoind on this subject. Voice dubbing is really bad - but what s worse, it is usually the same voice in EVERY darn film. Always overacted and always destroys the real power of a film. Saw "Sixth Sense" in dub recently - switched off as it was way too annoying!! :(

oh, and agree with smithinjapan on film posters AND film titles. What was it that they called "The Bucket List"?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SI SHO GOOOOO!!!!****

gyouza: "What was it that they called "The Bucket List"?"

Actually, I'm not at all against them changing the name to a Japanese name so long as they try to change it to something in Japanese that garners the meaning of the name in the native tongue (they don't have an equivalent to 'kick the bucket'), but what I'm against is when they manipulate a poster or name or cover or what have you simply for sales. Changing the cover of EVERY horror movie that comes out after 28 Days Later to look like the same cover, or every movie after Saw to look like the cover of Saw is what I'm talking about.

I once went to the movie theatre to catch a flick and the movie I wanted to see was sold out, so looking at the posters of other movies I decided on a WWI flick I had never heard of, with the title, in English, being, "The Long Engagement" (and it's actually "The Very Long Engagement" in English!). Turns out it was not in English at all but was entirely in French. Given that I love the movies of Jean- Pierre Jeunet (save Alien 4) and can understand a certain amount of French and the Japanese subtitles, I did not mind as much up to the three hour line, but it was still disingenuous to adopt the English title to a French film. My bad for not walking an inch from the poster to read the フランス語版 written in 8 point type in the bottom right corner, or seeing the names of the actors in my rush to buy a ticket, but still.

In this case we have utter disrespect for the female lead, and instead the poster is 'graced' with a voice actor who probably, given voice acting here (as well as other Asian countries), speaks a few octaves higher than Mariah Carey can reach, is on the poster. Her face does not appear in the movie, so why on the ad?

got to be Maria Ozawa.......................LOL

who care!! she's not in the movie, so who care!!!

that movie suck anyway!

@smithinjapan - I agree - and I believe that it is the addition of what is most likely an AKB starlet really scrapes bottom of the barrell.

Looks like Hilary Clinton with dark hair. Look at the nose, eyes and lips. Very obvious.

Yes Smith. She is a turn on. Ask Bill!

Export - Nope.

Better yet, ask Jennifer Flowers.... hahaha.

I saw this movie and didn't think it was all that bad. Kind of border-line on whether I should have spent my money at the theater or waited for the DVD to come out. For a sci-fi type movie, the central idea having a limited lifespan isn't a new one but it was done differently then what I have seen in the past.

Doing voices is a bigger deal in Japan than in most other countries so I can understand putting the women's face on the poster. They way it is digitized out it could be just about any Asian actress you can think of.

If there is a Asian or Japanese involved in a movie project, I noticed that Japan will advertise with Alternate Covers and Posters for their consumers here in Japan. Whenever I go to Video store I noticed that the TV series and Movies put the Asian Character (instead of the lead actor) on the cover even if its just a supporting role. I guess it's not a bad idea since the Japanese are proud of their own and want to see them marketed.

Right? Amanda, who?

A voice-over dub does not an actress make.

If this is the trend, then let it be!

So that I'll know the face of the one that screwed up the voice of my favorite actor.

Vernie: " I guess it's not a bad idea since the Japanese are proud of their own and want to see them marketed."

Yes and no. When they make EVERY cover to look like the cover of Deep Impact, it's misleading. What's more, while they put the actor on the cover that actor has in some cases been in one or two episodes TOPS for the entire run of the show. If it increases sales, great. But if people think this person is in the movie or show when they're not, it's a scam (and I don't consider a voice-dubbing actor as being 'in' the movie).
