TOKYO —
Rock band X Japan leader Yoshiki, who is auctioning off his favorite piano to raise money for Japan’s tsunami victims, has received a bid of 30 million yen for the iconic instrument. Bidding is not yet closed for the item, which Yahoo is offering in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. With the help of auction proxy services, the piano is also available in other languages to bidders worldwide.
The auction has also been granted its own banner on the Yahoo Tohoku Earthquake Charity Auction Site and provisions have been made to allow fans to bid from Facebook and Twitter. Yahoo says that anyone of any nationality who can read the web pages is eligible to bid.
Auction proxy service J-grab, which supports English language buyers in the Japanese market, has offered to help international buyers bid on the piano by making handling fees and commission free of charge.
The auction will be held until April 24. The amount international bidders pay will be calculated according to the exchange rate on the day they placed their bids.
The item being auctioned is a Kawai CR-40 model piano with an transparent acrylic resin coating. The final amount will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross via Yoshiki Foundation America.

Good on him! Let's hope the bid gets up to at least 100 Million yen - if the funds can help the Red Cross buy some medical supplies, food, temporary shelter etc for some of the victims up in Tohoku, it is well worthwhile.
