Yoko Ono dishes out peace in Tokyo

TOKYO —

Yoko Ono on Tuesday announced her upcoming charity concert “John Lennon Super Live” to be held at Nippon Budokan on Dec 8 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her peace and human rights efforts. She also distributed pieces of a clay pot as a present to those in attendance, and asked them to bring them back in 10 years time so they can put the pot back together as a gesture of rebuilding peace.

Ono, 75, likened the smashed pot to the sad state of affairs in the world today, and asked the audience to think of how they can help in peace efforts when they look at their piece of the pot, and to come back to the Imagine Studio in Yurakucho on Dec 2, 2018 and help rebuild it.

John Lennon and Ono’s fight for world peace together began in 1968 when they planted two acorns at the Coventry Cathedral in England. Their act was not only a symbol for peace, but also of east and west coming together, and a symbol of the distance between two people being minimized by love. They held their famous “Beds In for Peace” events the following year.

Wasn't her 5 minutes of fame up about 6 minutes after John got shot?

Why is she still considered "important" enough to report on?

  • cleo at 05:42 PM JST - 3rd December

Will Ms Ono be around in 10 years' time to put the pot together again? And won't it be an awfully, darkly symbolic comment on the sad state of affairs in the world of 2018 if lots of bits remain missing?

Ms. Yoko Ono, as known outside of Japan (Ono Yokosan) is a great human being. This crap about her asking John to leave Japan to go back to New York is rubbish. Their are many reports of John Lennon resenting her just reading newspapers in JAPANESE, her speaking in Japanese her enjoying herself with her own Japanese family and friends. So, that they went off to live in New York and that idiot wacko killed him has nothing to do with Yoko and more with John preferring New York over Tokyo.

What a shame they didn't plant a third acorn for the MIDDLE East...

She's the luckiest groupie in the history of rock'n'roll.

That's about the size of it, RR. And no groupie before or since has ever screwed a band like she did.

She hasn't been relevant for at least 20 years.

Really? Did he tell you that himself because HE TOLD ME the opposite.

This woman is not news. Extremely rich, uncommonly money-grubbing ... and decidedly without any talent of her own. Please refrain from any further 'reportage' where the Ono san is concerned. Thank you.

Most of the comments here really are amazing. I just wish they were amazing in a good way. First thing is do any of you know about the last interviews Lennon gave. Well, he says that if you think he is controlled by anyone and that he dosen’t do things because he wants to, then F.U. If you think Yoko broke up the Beatles then grow up and really look at the facts, if that’s not to much work for you. If it is then continue your unwarrented hatred, which is the exact thing Yoko is hoping to get rid of. She is always doing something to get the thought of Peace out there, take a look at yourself and see what you do to make this world better.

Get real, people. This 'peace getter-outter' is worth upwards of one billion U.S. $ ... that's $1,000,000,000,000. Disgusting that one person thinks their entitled to such an embarrassment of lucre.

Ono - and equally rich McCartney - should feed the mouths of hungry children with half of their wealth ... yesterday! What are they going to do, take it to their graves?

"Imagine all possessions" ... oh, what a sad, heartless scam!

  • koizumi at 09:48 AM JST - 7th December

I may have given Miss Ono a few extra billion $ above - forgive, she's only got ONE.

  • Asara at 09:55 AM JST - 7th December

Just curious does she speak japanese without accent?

Nonsense. Paul's legendary for his support of the legless and mentally unstable -- or both, in the case of his ex-wife.

She must be due to release another Lennon compilation album. Proceeds will go to pay for Sean`s studio rental fees.
