TOKYO —
YOSHIKI of the popular rock band X Japan has canceled the group’s world tour because he has a herniated cervical disc, his agent said Monday. The agent said they are not sure when YOSHIKI can resume his activities or when the tour will go ahead.
According the agent, YOSHIKI suffers pain in his neck and hands and can’t easily move. His doctors has ordered bed rest as much as possible.
The world tour had been scheduled to kick off in Paris in July, then move to Taipei in August and New York in September.

Okay, so, in your professional opinion, what is a good band? You obviously think these guys suck, so why don't you enlighten us?

No wonder he has a herniated disk. It's from carrying those uppercase letters around all the time.

Sad news. I hope he gets better soon.

wow THIS is such a TRAGEDY...who is HE by the way ?

Good bands: Anything with Neil Young (except Crosby, Stills, &); the early Checkers, The Stones, The Who (before half of them died), and Talking Heads.
Bands I wouldn't pay to see: X-Japan. Why? I like rock. And if they come with a show that reflects their personality, great. If they come with a show that reflects a need for more glitz, not.
However, I hope Yoshiki gets well soon and doesn't disappoint his fans by canceling their world gig altogether.

Borscht, other than the talking heads, I approve of your answering the question regarding good bands.. Rtrhead1, I got lots more suggestions for u. Just ask..

It's ok. Basically Japanese people like their songs because the melody is like so-called 歌謡曲. Thus their "rock" is pretty different from those good bands that are considered real one...they have just different kind of style and it reflects cultural differences between Japanese and foreigners, too.

Why does he have to shout his name?
rtrhead1 at 12:42 PM JST - 11th June
borscht, have you ever actually LISTENED to any of their songs? They have a lot of talent for writing, composing, and playing music. Now, their get-up's are a little (way over the line) out there, but that has nothing to do with their sound. Why only older bands? X Japan is rock. Now, if you said you like Classic Rock, but not the newer rock, then your statement would have made more sense. However, I do agree that the bands that you suggested, minus Talking Heads, have some very good music. They don't have a whole lot of new stuff though, do they?
Altria, he needs to shout to be heard over his loud arse hair and makeup!

I'm not an X-Japan fan either, but just because their style I don't like nothing against them personally. rtrhead1 said it right, "Now, if you said you like Classic Rock, but not the newer rock, then your statement would have made more sense". It's kind of like hardcore ACDC fans saying that ACDC is the best group in the world and nothing else counts, it's only their opinion.
Anyway, back on track, I think Yoshiki is showing his age with a hermiated disc. And a world tour is only three countries? It just seems like Paris, New York and Taipei, is that correct?

X-Japan takes the worst excesses of '80s hair-metal wuss rock and multiplies by 10. I suppose they fill a niche here in Japan with it's small and inbred music scene, but what's saddest are the foreign Japanophiles who insist they're not that bad. You know deep down, like the band itself, it's just a bunch of bluster..

rthead1,
Yes, I have listened to their music. They don't need the hair-metal excess glitzy show 'dramatics' as it detracts from their music. But if they played their music straight: wearing jeans and t-shirts and just playing rather than being 'dramatic' then, well, maybe they wouldn't sell so many CDs. I can't remember the name of one of their songs but it was quite catchy and I couldn't get it out of my head for a long time. Not the worst band in the world (cough America cough) but not my cup of ocha.
On topic: I hope Toshiki is more compassionate about Yoshiki's ailment and that Yoshiki composes some more songs while he's laid up. So to speak.

They are one of the bands that started the visual-kei look. It's like David Bowie, Gary Glitter and KISS, glam rock at its best/worst. Lets not forget the big hair spandex-wearing bands of the 80's.
I am not a fan, like Junichiro Koizumi (Remember him singing "Forever Love" several years ago? Before he did his impersonation of Elvis...), but their music is good.
I liked the guitarist Hide's solo effort (Hide with Spread Beaver catchy name...) much more than X-Japan.
Hope Yoshiki gets better. He should just go to a WWE surgeon, they fix herniated disks in necks all the time. Maybe he should refrain from collapsing on his drum kit during almost every concert.
BTW even though The Who only has two surviving members, they are still rocking. Not like in the days with Moonie and the The Ox, but still....
