TOKYO —
Actress-singer Youki Kudoh, 37, held a concert at a live house in Ebisu this week, the first time she has performed live in 15 years. She appeared nervous as she came on stage but fired up the crowd of 100 with 10 songs.
Kudoh also told the audience of how she auditioned for the musical version of “Lion King” when she stayed in the U.S. 10 years ago, and how she met an American she thought she could have spent the rest of her life with.
She finished the night with a cover of her late father Hachiro Izawa’s hit “Full Moon in the North Sea,” and declared her intention to sing her father’s songs as well in her musical career comeback.

I was lucky enough to have a chance to work with her on a small project for NHK a couple of years ago. I really respect her for the hard work she put in to learn English, and the drive and determination she has always had to make such a successful acting career for herself.

Is this the same chick that played "Pumpkin" in Memoirs of a Geisha? If so, according to one of her bios, she had a marriage that lasted 3 years.

Terrific actress. You should see her in Snow Falling on Cedars.
