Yuka gets her gear off for magazine for first time in nearly 10 years

TOKYO —

Actress and TV celebrity Yuka, 29, graces the cover of the August issue of fashion magazine FRaU, due out on Friday. Inside is a 12-page spread titled “Loosening up the mind and body,” which boasts an impressive array of pictures of Yuka taken in Hawaii in late May.

Yuka, co-host of TBS’ Saturday morning variety program “King’s Brunch,” made her debut as a bikini model in 1997, and rose to fame billed as an F-cup idol, measuring 87-59-85 at the time. The August edition of FraU is the first time she has modeled in a bikini since her 2000 photo book “innocent.”

She says in the article that she loves Hawaii’s relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and felt liberated during the photo shoot. She also said that her ideal figure is one which is not too thin, but cute with a bit of meat and curves on it.

    Triumvere and flatearther,

I agree 100% with IchyaWarFare. You both wrote excellent posts on the matter. Very good reads, indeed!

    Oops:

The point has already been raised that Yuka has a successful TV and acting career; undoubtedly "sex" (her face and figure) play an important role in that success, even if she is doing anything explicitly sexual.

As you have already guessed that should read "isn't doing anything explicitly sexual."

What, was she running out of money? I thought her career was going along smoothly. Maybe she just wanted to have some nice photos taken before the wrinkles and flab set in.

    cooeecobber

Wow, you set the cat amongst the pigeons, didn't you?

Why has no one even noticed or bothered to mention that the magazine FrAu is totally a woman' s fashion/life magazine. I don't think any guy has ever bought or even noticed the magazine on the shelf. So all this talk about exploitation and thinking or doing nasty things while looking at this picture is just way off. What's next? Are people going to complain that girls in a runner's magazine are showing too much leg?

Are people going to complain that girls in a runner's magazine are showing too much leg?

Actually I think that is where it is heading for some so called 'feminists' (for which a better word might be extremist).

Also, you point is spot on about FrAu. I assumed cooeecobber's complaint was mainly with JT for even mentioning Yuka and suggesting (SHOCK!) that she is attractive (Horror!), that is why I didn't bother to bring it up.

  • kinniku at 09:11 AM JST - 11th July

This is ALL about feminism, mate.

Nope. As I and others have clearly demonstrated, it is not at all about feminism.

    That you plainly don't understand.

I understand you are looking for issues where there are none. That is what I and other have plainly been explaining to you.

For example, the power relationships involved with publisher(who uses sex to sell) and model, however much consent is given, is almost always unequal.

Is it always unequal? Ummm...that would depend on the individual model and the magazine publisher and how much they want or need that particular model. However, I find it interesting that you have never heard that power relationships between people in the entertainment business (and every other business for that matter) are often (SHOCK!) unequal whether the people are men or women. That is because there are bosses and subordinates. Sorry feminism won't erase that, I'm afraid.

I find it interesting that nobody has mentioned anything about the person, apart from that. How shallow. How sad.

As others have pointed out, what is shallow and sad is that fact that you didn't noticed that others have, in fact, mentioned plenty about Yuka. As I said before, maybe it is time for you to get reading lessons and a new dictionary.

REAL feminists don't give a toss about ladies posing in suits or nude, we have bigger things to worry about, like pay inequality and domestic violence. I would be offended if Yuka-san was paid less than a man for this magazine shoot, but I don't believe that's the case. Good for her! There's nothing wrong with the female body and it's "feminists" who think that a woman's body is a thing of shame who are the real problem.

  • antizombie at 03:35 PM JST - 11th July

Compared to European magazines, Japanese slantly nudeness seem a joke. A classical Greek beauty is better for me than anorexy and pre-teen body. In addition, intelligence and non childish behaviours are pluses for hot women.

  • Tokyo99 at 03:49 PM JST - 11th July

What's really amazing is that a story about a 29 year old woman appearing in a really normal- dull even- woman's magazine is eliciting the most number of comments. Please remember that this is NOT a mens magazine glorifying preteens etc. Really!!! You people are looking for sin where ain't none.

You people? I think most posts stongly support Yuka`s decision to release a few slightly risque pics.

  • Sarge at 09:33 PM JST - 11th July

This photo of Yuka exposes her entire back. This is very nice indeed.

This photo of Yuka exposes her entire back. This is very nice indeed.

It seems like she`s in some kind of bizarre "best bare back contest" with Yonekura Ryoko.

You people? I think most posts stongly support Yuka`s decision to release a few slightly risque pics.

I was at the bookstore today and saw the issue in question. The pictures aren't even slightly risqué, just Yuka in some travel-type pics. The small pic accompanying this article is as risqué as it gets.

There really should be NO fuss at all, unless you are the type who thinks women need to wear the niqab.

  • womanforwomen at 10:41 PM JST - 11th July

sarge, is that the entire back for you? ummm something wrong..

  • moonbeams at 11:19 PM JST - 13th July

um.. While I always appreciate people sticking up and fighting against the sexualization and objectification of women, I believe the magazine is for women..
