Yukie Nakama draws curtain on trademark 'Gokusen' tracksuit

TOKYO —

Actress Yukie Nakama, 29, attended an event this week for “Gokusen: THE MOVIE,” which is currently showing in cinemas, and said that it would really be the last time she wore the trademark red-with-white-stripe tracksuit her character, Kumiko Yamaguchi, is famous for.

The PR event in Shiodome, titled “GO! SHIODOME Jamboree Wasshoi! 2009,” attracted about 1,600 people. Aqua Timez, who perform the theme song “Plumeria - Hana Uta” used in the movie, joined Nakama on stage for a rendition of the song. Vocalist Futoshi, 29, was excited when he said: “It’s the first time I’ve seen Kumiko in the flesh.”

According to recent box office numbers, 2.33 million people have gone to see “Gokusen: THE MOVIE,” raking in some 2.7 billion yen.

I don't really dislike Nakama, but I hate the Hell out of that damn tracksuit and ponytails look.

  • The758 at 08:46 AM JST - 14th August

I don't find her attractive at all, whatever she's wearing.

  • kurisutofu at 09:21 AM JST - 14th August

I like her voice ... but like TheDave, I hate the character of Gokusen ...

In other news - Toss Not Given.

Only here could something as vapid and content-free be classed as news.

One of the AV studios made a parady called "Gokkun".

She may look good for TV commercials, but damn is she ever a bad actress.

"damn is she ever a bad actress"

That must be why 2,330,000 people have gone to see Gokusen: THE MOVIE.

Yeah, they are all fans of her acting I'm sure... I guess all those talento in bad TV dramas get high ratings for their great abilities too.

  • Muki_Muki at 12:38 AM JST - 15th August

I never did really like that show anyway. I thought there was nothing redeeming about her class of snot nosed brats. And her being the daughter of a Yakuza boss did nothing to turn things around for the kids.

All in all, all the show had was a catchy phrase and the stupid track suit.

    Fight oh!

  • Simon_Foston at 01:51 AM JST - 15th August

Good. That programme absolutely stinks. It's hammy, over-acted, melodramatic, over-scored and intensely irritating, just like all the other garbage they have the insolence to call TV drama in this country.

  • Potsu at 08:45 AM JST - 15th August

Thank God....the lamest worst acted show ever...how does something that bad turn into a movie ?

  • Airion at 12:18 PM JST - 15th August

Gokusen is a guilty pleasure. Guilty because every episode is the same basic plot repeated over and over. And a pleasure for reasons I don't really know. I know I like looking at Yukie Nakama at least.

I actually like the dorama series a lot. I'm not really sure why but I'm addicted to it and I personally can't wait to be able to get a hold of the movie to see it. Yeah, acting sucks, repetitive plots and such, but it still fascinates me.
