TOKYO —
Actress Yukie Nakama, 28, and ex-Yakult Swallows manager Atsuya Furuta, 42, teamed up this week to promote Panasonic’s new beauty appliance brand “Panasonic Beauty.” The two will appear new TV commercials from autumn. Asked about the essence of beauty, Nakama said, “The first impression stemming from grooming and appearance is important. But internal beauty is also necessary for external beauty.”
Furuta, who will appear in Panasonic’s shaver commercial, said, “I was using Braun shavers before I got the offer from Panasonic. But when I used the Panasonic shaver, I really liked it.”

the problem with the 'entertainment' industry in japan is that it is really just a feeble extension of the advertising industry. these 2-faced 'personalities' have zero credibility

Who believes these 'celebrities'? Also, that woman has the worst fake teeth.

I like Nakama Yukie as an actress, but she would shill chocolate covered douche bags if it got her face on TV or on a poster. Enough already.

So you're asking her to turn down those fat envelopes that keep coming her way? I wouldn't if I were her.
Damn I'm poor.

That's why this hair dryer plugs directly into one's inner beauty.

Nice, but it won't sell well here.

Nakama already has more endorsements than anybody. I don't begrudge her right to make a living, but it does beg the question of how much more successful than the most successful one has to be before money is not the primary consideration in making life decisions. Anyway, not a knock on Nakama per se but it does seem to me sometimes it would be nice to see a Japanese singer/actor/model/journalist/comedian/whatever who seems remotely interested in their craft, as opposed to being a vehicle by which they can achieve their ultimate goal which is to make a cringe-inducing quantity of commercials (see Kumi, Koda).

she is hot, that is all that matters

Those are your words. Commercials, compared to dramas or other longer-term projects, are easy money. And the Japanese like familiar things, we don't want to scare them in their living rooms with unfamiliar faces now do we? Redirect your frustration towards Japanese society as a whole, and leave my girlfriend out of it.

Can't knock CMs personally. I show up in four that are now on TV and got another four that will be released in the upcoming months (the latest one begins airing this Sunday).
Good money for the amount of "work" that's required.

I agree with tokyo tom.

she's great. she has nurtured an image as an extremely intelligent and courageous woman, who knows maybe she's an airhead in real life. too bad she's wasting her talent selling out to promote hair dryers.
btw i just get a Braun shaver, Pulsonic top of the line, it really sucks compared to Norelco "lift & cut", and neither can win against the old school blades.

I'd rather she did these than another season of "Gokusen"...........
