Yumiko Shaku to get serious about hubby hunting as blood-type drama airs on Fuji TV

TOKYO —

Actress Yumiko Shaku, 30, wore a wedding dress to a press conference held to promote Fuji TV’s upcoming four-part drama series “How To Marry For Women With Different Blood Types.” The romantic comedy will run for four nights at 11 p.m., starting on Feb 23 and finishing on Feb 26. Each night the main character, Sachie, has a different blood type and is played by an actress with that blood type.

Shaku, who is type B, will star as Sachie on Feb 24. Talking about her own marriage prospects, she said: “I’m in my 30s now, so I guess I should start looking properly for a marriage partner … until recently I’ve just been coasting along thinking I’ll meet someone nice. I think I’ll get a bit more serious about it now.”

Actresses Rosa Kato, 23, of blood type A, plays Sachie on Feb 23; Yu Kashii, 22, blood type O, stars on Feb 25; and Asami Mizukawa, 25, blood type AB, on Feb 26.

Shigeru Joshima, guitarist and leader of rock band TOKIO, stars opposite Mizukawa in the final episode, and said: “I’ll be 40 next year. I can’t say things like it’s my wish or my hope to get married. It’s more like, someone help me now!”

GG2141, blood types were discovered at the beggining of the 20th century... (lol)

I will admit that you have me on that glaring inaccuracy. Still, it makes for a good pub-story.

Now she has the dress I would take her on.

Yumiko Shaku should say the same: I'm 30. someone help me find a husband..please!

Getting married in Japan is based on everything except feelings.

GenevaMan: You are so right! it didn't trigger my mind till now....no wonder the J women would do anything to get a man....

Shaku is a good looking gal. I'm sure she could find a boyfriend/hubby no problem if she really wanted too. Unfortunately it may be that she falls into the same band as her fellow tarento bints. They seem more interested in the guys salary, status etc over his actual charms.

How could such a feeble idea for a mini-series even get off the drawing board?

To be honest I think the problem in Japan is less blood-types and more "suki na type". I know several Japanese women who have this "suki na type" image of a guy firmly fixed in their mind and won't consider any man who strays even a little bit outside of its strictly defined boundary. They seem to be condemning themselves to be eternally disappointed, because no guy ever matches the pre-defined image. It's like when you go shopping for clothes... it's best not to have too much of an image of what you want, better to have a vague image in your mind and then see what's on offer.

GenevaMan & seesaw -- completely agree. If there was real romance/feelings in Japan, Valentine's Day that was "celebrated" here last week would not require women to purchase obligation chocolates, and men would actually know how their woman would like to be treated.

Blood types! Have you seen the condom vending machines that have the condoms seperated into blood types? I shoot you not! The condoms are the same, but the instructions for use are different. Go figure! This chick is hot, but obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. Perfect!

    From the internet

    • In Japan, you are what you bleed. Blood type is a common way of defining temperament and personality, much like horoscopes in Western countries. It all started in 1931 in Japan. Furukawa Takeji (1891–1940) proposed that there was a link between blood type and personality after working in the administration department of a high school and observing the temperamental differences between applicants. Furukawa proposed that we humans are simple beings, only requiring two personality types. His report stated that people of blood type A were generally mild tempered and intellectual, while people of blood type B were the opposite, essentially dividing the population into the “good” and the “bad.”

Dissolusioned: Shaku was hot 5 or 6 years ago. She's quickly going baba, and had to be replaced by Moe Oshikiri on one show and Maiko Oshiro on another. Now, about her not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, she's not. But Oshikiri is by far the greater airhead.

Matched marriages exist in Japan life from the beginning. So it is absolutely normal to have a marriage withiout any love and sex. Japanese men keep cheating on the wives, trying to compensate it. Pathetic!!!

  • Nessie at 06:47 PM JST - 18th February

I'm hoping it ends like Scanners, with everyone realizing it's all junk science and the cognitive dissonace causing heads to explode all around.

Well, a boy can hope, can't he?

  • Sarge at 11:49 AM JST - 19th February

Doesn't anyone in this drama have blood type T-negative?
