On June 20, Craig Hudleston, Chris Kimber, Jamie Slaymaker and Dan McGrath will team up as the Crank Addicts Tokyo to tackle arguably the world’s toughest endurance bicycle race – Race Across America – to raise money for Cancer Council New South Wales and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The foursome will embark on a 5,000-km journey from Oceanside, Calif, to Annapolis, Maryland. They will cross three time zones, 12 states, 88 counties and 350 communities, while climbing over 52,000 meters of vertical ascent.
Race Across America is not a stage race; once the clock starts, it does not finish until the four cross the finish line. It is about 30% longer than the Tour de France, and the group aims to finish in about seven days.
The four decided to raise money for Cancer Council and Marie Curie after they lost their mate Darren "Furnsy" Turner to cancer.
