Anyone for doughnuts?

To celebrate Father’s Day and the Tanabata Star Festival, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Japan will sell its limited edition doughnuts “Daddy’s Coffee Chocolate” and “Chocolate Sprinkle Star” respectively at all Krispy Kreme Doughnuts stores nationwide.

Last year, Krispy Kreme asked its doughnut-loving part-time staff to propose ideas for new doughnuts. The company selected eight ideas for new products out of the 100 or so suggestions that they received, and held an in-store poll for customers. The end product, “Daddy’s Coffee Chocolate,” is coated with bittersweet coffee chocolate, decorated with chocolate made from condensed milk and dark chocolate, and topped with chocolate shaped like coffee beans.

The “Chocolate Sprinkle Star” will be in stores from June 3 until July 7. Its design was inspired by the stars thought to be sparkling in the sky during the traditional Tanabata Star Festival held annually. The star-shaped glazed doughnut is coated with dark chocolate icing and topped with colorful sprinkles to create a very charming addition to the store’s lineup.

In addition to these new additions, the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store in Yurakucho ITOCiA will reopen on June 2 with some exciting changes. Since it first opened in October of 2007 as the second Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store in the country, it has gained great popularity. With the goal of making the store more “fun” for everyone, the newly renovated store will include a processing theater and a much larger interior with wireless Internet. In the processing theater, customers will be able to view the doughnuts’ decoration process, and from 3 to 8 p.m., be able to decorate their own doughnuts.

Ain't it the truth! One Krispy Kreme doughnut in my belly and I have a sugar headache for the rest of the morning followed by the sugar "crash" just before lunchtime. I tend to avoid all doughnuts for this reason, not just the Krispy Kreme brand.

I know someone who used to have a boss who would bring krispy kreme doughnuts in to the office, labouring under the woeful self-deception that he could dupe us into believing him halfway competent by so doing.

In fact, he was as prudent with his confectionery budget as he was with his management decisions.

Cleo, I'm guessing they were commenting on the shape being the stylized representation for a star (what you think of when you hear "star"), rather than the actual shape of a star which is similar to a normal jelly-filled doughnut. Without the icing. And with a 7000F degree outer surface. It brings a whole different meaning to "Krispy". :-)

Japanese waste so much time. Those OL's standing in line for 2 hours for donuts. Got to wonder why Japan is so behind the rest of the world. They are waiting in lines for donuts. KK doesn't even have powered sugar cake donuts that made them famous in the US. I guess Japanese prefer substandard, long lines, and expensive donuts.

the longer the wait, the more the "gambare" points with the folks at the office. whether or not the donuts are any good is beside the point. i'm sure there were people who were genuinely disappointed when the queues at shinjuku southern terrace started to approach something tolerable

i managed to upset a student a while back when i failed to pretend i didn't think her two hour wait for donuts was a waste of a percentage of her life. and to think part of my argument was to support good ol' homegrown mister donuts? can't win, can you
