Etihad to launch flights to Tokyo in March

While many airlines continue to struggle amid the prolonged recession, Middle Eastern carriers are flying high and looking to Japan. Etihad Airways has announced plans to launch flights to Tokyo in March 2010, when Narita International Airport’s extended B runway goes into operation.

With the use of the 2,500-meter-long runway (extended from 2,180 meters), Narita will be able to boost traffic by 20,000 flight slots from the current 200,000. Etihad will operate five Airbus A330 flights a week from Abu Dhabi to Narita from March 27, and four flights a week to Nagoya, via Beijing, from Feb 1.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways – which currently flies to Kansai International Airport in Osaka – has its sights set on daily flights to Tokyo and is awaiting approval from the Japanese government.

Etihad flies out of Abu Dhabi. Not Dubai.

While Dubai's been brought up, it's worthy to mention that Emirates surprisingly loses out for a place in Narita AGAIN.

Yeah Etihad is the Abu Dhabi carrier and Emirates is the Dubai. Emirates flys into Osaka nonstop.
