Shangri-La Tokyo announces Christmas-New Year plans

From Dec 1, the Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo, is offering meticulously planned special lunch and dinner courses, special stay packages and attractive gifts on sale for its fist first festive celebration.

The Lobby Lounge is offering Christmas Afternoon Tea at 3,900 yen and a Champagne Set at 5,900 yen featuring seasonal delights presented in festive colors with specially blended Christmas flavored tea. From Dec 19-25, guests will receive a special gift of Christmas flavored tea sachets by Leafull.

Guests can indulge in Dolce Vita with Chef Paolo’s authentic Tuscan cuisine, specially arranged for Piacere‘s first Natale (Christmas) and Capodanno (New Year’s Eve), all in an elegant setting offering the best views of the city. From Dec 19-25, Piacere offers Natale lunch with four courses at 9,800 yen per person and dinner with five courses at 21,000 yen.

Natale lunch includes starter; “surprise pasta,” the restaurant’s signature menu that offers three kinds of pasta on one plate; a main course and dessert. Natale dinner offers a starter, “surprise pasta,” a main course and dessert.

For New Year’s Eve, the five-course Capodanno dinner menu is 25,000 yen per person, or 40,000 yen if paired with fine wines. Chef Pelosi’s Italian creativity complements Piacere’s collection of fine wines and intriguing interior design.

For guests who are looking for something different, Nadaman offers specially designed Christmas dinner Kaiseki at 25,000 yen and Teppanyaki at 35,000 yen from Dec 19-25. Guests can also enjoy an authentic Osechi breakfast by Chef Yoshida, available only on New Year’s Day, at 6,500 yen.

Guests should not miss the New Year’s Eve celebration at the Lobby Lounge featuring a magic show and champagne services. Light meals will be served at the buffet counter. The entrance charge will be 5,000 yen per person.

The hotel is also offering festive season packages from Dec 1 to Jan 3. Including a daily breakfast for two persons, Christmas flowers by Nicolai Bergmann, the newly launched original “Shang-Bear” teddy bear and the hotel’s first ever Christmas cake, the package starts at 58,000 yen for one night’s stay in a Deluxe room, rising to 1 million yen for the Presidential suite, which also includes a bottle of champagne with strawberries and in-room Christmas dinner for two.

Available only for arrivals from Dec 31 to Jan 3, 2010, the New Year’s Eve package offers two nights stay for two with an Osechi breakfast served in the guestroom and a commemorative gift by Robbe and Berking priced from 140,000 yen.

    Actually, Altria, there are a lot of wealthy people in Japan who are immune to the recession. I was in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton one afternoon last week and the afternoon tea was packed with elderly ladies and few younger ones, too. Not one table available. They also told me their restaurants are fully booked for Christmas and New Year.

    For many people, a visit to a 5-star hotel is a once-a-year treat. I can see the Shangri-La afternoon tea being very popular.

    Afternoon Tea at Shangri-La Hotel ...? I'd rather have apple crumble with whipped cream at Afternoon Tea..:)
