Snow tours go on sale at JAPANiCAN.com

TOKYO —

The JTB group’s English website JAPANiCAN.com has begun selling a series of tours for experiencing winter. The tours, visiting locales like Nagano, Niigata and Hokkaido, cover three of Japan’s most popular winter attractions: skiing, Sapporo Snow Festival, and snow monkeys.

Ski tours

Sunrise has prepared ski tours at a variety of great locations throughout Japan, including the far north, powder-covered winter wonderland of Hokkaido and centrally located, easily accessible Nagano. All of Sunrise’s ski tours include lift tickets, and both one-day and overnight (accommodation included) packages are available.

Sapporo Snow Festival

The world-renowned Sapporo Snow Festival features epic snow sculptures created by teams from around the world. Visited by millions of both domestic and international tourists each year, the festival is a spectacular event and an unforgettable experience. The 2010 Sapporo Snow Festival Tours include round-trip airfare between Haneda and Chitose Airports and one night’s accommodation in Sapporo.

Snow monkeys

Snow monkeys continue to be a popular image of the Japanese winter. Sunrise has prepared tours with a visit to a park in Nagano where visitors can see the monkeys, up close and personal, escape the biting cold by gathering around and even soaking in hot springs surrounded by snow.

Just looked up the prices. Crazy! With a 50% coupon you can buy at any discount shop for airfare, paying 50.000 plus per person for a one night stay is insane. For those prices you can go to Hawaii in February. 30,000 max would be acceptable 15,000 yen for flights and 15,000 yen for hotel but what they are charging are criminal. Foreigners aren't stupid, are we?

Noborito, you hit the nail on the head. The result of these prices (sadly predominant in all areas of Japan based vacation business) is the rapidly declining domestic travel.

Japanese are not stupid and head for the (ski) resorts outside Japan as this is cheaper, less artificial and more cultural rewarding than travelling to the Japanese shiny plastic driping "manga resorts" that are stripped of all traditional cultural experiance that give spice to the pure fun of skiing.
