Grasshoppers and other insects are eaten in some parts of Japan. I have seen people in Fukushima walking through the rice fields with a bottle in one hand. They caught grasshoppers with the other hand and then put them in the bottle, which they closed with their thumb.

One of the problem with eating insects is that they can contain high levels of insecticide.
