I know they are not American, but Walkers (UK) make great crisps. Was alos surprised at how good chips are in South Africa - Simba have some great flavours and good potatoey texture.

In France, Lay's "L'Ancienne" variety is pretty amazing...used to tour with bands and did so all across North America, Europe and Japan. I collected hundreds of varieties of potato chips, potato snacks...supermarkets in each culture says EVERYTHING.
