Bring on the heat with summer curry special from Mister Donut

The popular coffee shop Mister Donut has just announced that from the height of summer to the start of fall, they’ll be running a limited time special on some all new curry products. As the name would imply, Mister Donut (often referred to as MisuDo) specializes in a range of donuts and pies, though not everything on their menu is a dessert. From July 29 until late September, the chain will run a promotion they call “Cool MisuDo,” wherein they’ll rival the heat of the summer with the heat of spice using their brand new line of curry-filled pastries and drinks inspired by India.

Mister Donut’s line of curry breads are all deliciously wrapped inside a crisp, fried donut pastry. As part of their “Curry Bread for the Family” promotional event, they have developed three new curry flavors, each with a different level of spiciness. From the spiciest filling to the mildest, there’s House Java Curry, characterized by its deep flavor and rejuvenating spice fit for an adult palate. Next is the House Robust Curry, which contains sautéed onions and moderate spice that suits just about anyone. And lastly, for those who dislike hot foods, there’s the House Vermont Curry, which contains apple sauce and honey to make it more sweet than spicy. All three versions will be on sale for just 147 yen each.

To act as a good accompaniment to all of this spice, Mister Donut is also introducing a line of yogurt-based drinks called MisuDo Lassi, inspired by those originating in India. These thick and creamy drinks will be available in two varieties: the plain lassi will sell for 241 yen, or for 21 yen more, customers will be able to add cubes of mango gelatin to their cups.

As an extra incentive to go out and buy these great-sounding curry breads and creamy yogurt drinks, Mister Donut will also release a special Pon de Lion Curry Plate Set, featuring the chain’s adorable lion and sheep mascots. In order to get these plates, one must first purchase a set of seven pastries from the new line of curry breads. Only then will the plate set be made available for an additional 1,000 yen. For a discount on the plate set, interested parties may add a MisuDo Lassi to their order of bread and receive the plate set for just 600 yen. This promotion will continue until late September, but the plates will only be available while supplies last, so anyone who’s interested should plan an early trip to MisuDo this summer and enjoy the savory spice of their cool, new promotion.

Curry and donuts is not something I would eat on purpose.

Tokyo is fully served with great REAL Indian restaurants. Real, freshly cooked curry and nan, and lunches for around 800 yen. What's the point of going to a fast food joint?

But arent these essentially カレーパン?(Curry Bread) Completely different from anything you would get at an Indian restaurant. Plus, they would be filled with Japanese curry no? A totally different entity from Indian curry...

Tokiyo: when you eat Indian curry with nan, that's basically a curry and bread combination.

Whether it's "Japanese curry" or not, these products seem to be a blander and more processed version of Indian curry, which is made from freshly ground spices and other fresh ingredients and is served right after being cooked.

Being a fastfood place, I assume these products, however, are stored as frozen and then microwaved and maybe made in China. But hey, the choice is yours.

But its not the same thing Jeff. You dont get the panko coated crust with your everyday nan and curry! Not saying I want to eat the Mr. Donuts version mind you, but カレーパンis delicious in its own right.

I agree with Jeff. I'd rather spend ¥800 on a nice Indian meal with real ingredients than that processed stuff Mr.D makes. Also their curry inside these donuts are too sweet and just messy sauce. Reminds me of the old days when we used to eat those disgusting "Sloppy Joe's" just as bad. I think if they really want to, they could make a really delicious curry with spice, veggies and some real meat. I'd pay a bit more for quality, rather than quantity.
