Burger King Japan has two new burgers with jet-black buns and black cheese

Regular readers will no doubt already be aware that fast food chains in Japan like to mix things up every so often by giving their buns a splash of color. In the past 12 months alone, we’ve seen McDonald’s present a Sakura Pink teriyaki egg burger in time for the cherry blossom, and last October Burger King rocked a Black Ninja Burger which sported charcoal-black buns and a huge tongue-like slab of bacon.

Burger King has taken its worship of the darkness a step further with two more jet-black offerings: the Kuro Diamond and Kuro Pearl, which feature not just black buns, but slices of cheese and a tangy sauce that look dark enough to swallow any would-be diners whole.

On sale from Sept 19, these two dark, meaty giants are not messing around.

First up is the Kuro (black) Diamond Burger, which as well as its bamboo charcoal-infused black buns and cheese (seriously, black cheese!?) comes topped with onions, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise and Chaliapin sauce, a mixture of onion and garlic curiously named after Russian opera singer Feodor Ivanovich Chaliapin and to which Burger King has added squid ink into to turn pitch-black. Oh, and rest assured darkness fans: the patties may look normal, but they too include a generous helping of black pepper.

The simpler Kuro Pearl Burger, meanwhile, looks to be exactly the same as its Diamond brother, minus all the colourful trappings. And for that exact reason it looks far more menacing in our opinion.

The burgers will be on sale for limited time only, retailing for 690 yen and 480 yen, respectively. Get 'em while they’re hot and a bit frightening to look at.

They may sell well on Halloween, wonder if eating it turns your tongue black like a zombie? Maybe eating it turns you into one :-)

Fast food market is so competitive that those into it have to keep on coming up with new gimmicks to stay in the market lest they are fast gone out of business.
