America has food?

There has always been regional tastes. The myth of all Americans eating beef and hamburgers is just that a myth.

In my travels, it has been my experience that as a generality, people outside of the USA value quality of food much more than do Americans. As a rule, Americans value quantity of food over quality.

I don't know what you've heard or where you've been but that's not even remotely true

I live in America and I value the quality of food over quantity but there are Americans that chose to eat junk food. Their are also differences in what foods you will find in your local store depending on what part of the country you live in. My aunt used to ship Portuguese food to relatives in Florida because Portuguese items were not available there. (my aunt lived in Massachusetts)

There is some great food in the US if you hit nice restaurants. But even at these restaurants, the portions are often too large.

Somewhat true. I'd rather grill & sink my teeth into a carefully seasoned Tri-Tip rather that some outrageously overpriced and thinly sliced japanese beef. It seems like japanese are obsessed with the softness of the meat rather than it's actual flavor. Strange?

I think in the last 25 years, the quality of American food when eating out has improved tremendously. This is especially true on the larger metropolitan areas. Indeed, one city that has suddenly become a "food lover's paradise" is Las Vegas, NV, where you can now find in many casino resorts top-flight restaurants that rank among the very best in the USA. Indeed, even traditional hamburgers have tremendously improved in quality; places like Five Guys, Habit Burger, etc. are way above what you can get at traditional fast-food outlets. And the last 20 years, the lunch truck movement has also resulted in a huge leap forward in take-out food.

In short, the perception of American food is changing rapidly--and for the better.

Come to New Orleans...

Volume is the number one thing most Americans look for. I spent the last three weeks observing habits of Americans in restaurants in Florida. Gluttons.
