Häagen-Dazs Japan turns 30

The bizarre story of how Häagen-Dazs being a totally made up name that most of the world seems to think is actually of Dutch origin somehow aside, Häagen-Dazs ice cream – which is actually manufactured by a U.S. company – is renowned throughout much of the world for being high quality and super delicious.

It’s no surprise, then, that Häagen-Dazs Japan has enjoyed strong ice cream sales and a stellar reputation for 30 years now, and to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the company is going to kick back, relax, and gobble down two pints of brand new rose and sakura cherry blossom flavors of ice cream made to commemorate the chain’s three decades in Japan.

That’s right – Häagen-Dazs is getting all pink and floral to commemorate its arrival in Japan, and, even though you probably didn’t do anything to deserve it, you can enjoy these flavors too when they go on sale Feb 3.

These new flavors, of course, make perfect sense: flowers are ubiquitously present at celebrations, plus they make the packaging look pretty. Also, apparently flowers taste good.

The two varieties feature ice cream slathered in either sakura and cherry sauce or plum sauce, respectively. A 100 ml tub will set you back 284 yen.

February? I can't wait that long for a new flavour. Where are the Christmas strawberry shortcake and roast chicken flavours?

I have to say, despite everything, the purple potato and pumpkin flavours are very nice indeed. I should stock up before they disappear from the shelves.

Are you serious? Made in USA? They are sneaky~~;) Well, anyway, it has been my favorite treat since I was a kid. I can live with this alone 3 times a day if I do not have to think about fat. LOT LOVING IT.

Most Americans know (or should know) that Haagen-Dazs is an American brand. I love telling people in Japan that information. Many don't believe me. Rum and Raisin is still number one in my book.
