Halloween treat coming from Krispy Kreme

Halloween treat coming from Krispy Kreme

TOKYO —

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Japan KK will start selling “Trick or Treat!!” Halloween doughnuts for a limited time on Sept 14. Doughnuts will be dyed in the Halloween colors of orange and black.

Among the new offerings are “Halloween Jack,” made of caramel-chocolate. Spider-custard is a doughnut reminiscent of a webbed leaf. Pumpkin-Choco-treat is a ringed doughnut richly-flavored with pumpkin. On the drink menu, Maple Espresso offers an elegant and gentle taste.

During the campaign, customers who buy more than two boxes, including a Halloween-dozen box, will receive original mugs on which special designs or letters relevant to Halloween will appear when you pour hot drink in them. Paper hats will also be given to the first 10,000 children to come into the stores from Oct 8.

    I hardly ever see lines at the Shinjuku Southern Terrace store anymore. I guess that's why I don't see them offer free samples anymore. I hope they'll be able to keep making those rent payments since I like to get a glazed Krispy Kreme donut once every few months.

    There are still long line ups in Fukuoka at the relatively new Krispy Kreme donut shop. If they aren't giving out free donuts in line anymore I suspect it's because people leave the line after getting the donut. Many people I talk to (about the donuts) say that they only wanted one donut to begin with so when they get the free one, they are satisfied. If that's the case, they should start giving out bite sized samples instead. Also, from what I know you will only get a free donut if you have to wait in line for more than 5 minutes.

    Personally, I wouldn't to wait in line for more than 5 - 10 minutes, but here in Fukuoka, I've been told that the line ups are as long as 2 hours when they first opened. The line ups didn't seem that long to begin with, so I suspect really slow service.

    Is Krispy Kreme really Krispy Kreme here in Japan, or is it entirely Japanese owned and operated - or is it Lotteria?? - or that kind of place where they buy the logos, copy the uniforms and pay for recipes, like so many fake "American" outlets do here?

    Lotte! Korean owned. Here is the scoop;

    Winston-Salem-based Krispy Kreme said it awarded the development rights for the greater Tokyo area to a joint venture between Revamp Corp., Lotte Co. Ltd. and Takeo Shigemitsu, president and representative director of Lotte Co. Ltd. An affiliate of Lotte Co., Lotte Shopping Co. Ltd., is Krispy Kreme’s franchisee for South Korea and operates nine stores there.

    So, uh, how is this American?? And where are the profits going? To Seoul?
