McDonald’s Japan announces return of Texas and Idaho burgers Texas burger

TOKYO —

Never afraid to mix things up a little, McDonald’s Japan says that its Texas and Idaho burgers will be making a comeback in the coming weeks. The two burgers are part of the struggling fast food chain’s Big America ALL STARS (their capitalization) series, following on the relative success of the alternative sandwiches in previous years.

Just when you thought it was safe to stroll down the high street, these two monster burgers come out to get you. The Texas burger is scheduled to go on sale from Feb 1 until the end of the month, costing 360-400 yen, while the Idaho burger is set to be fired into our hungry shout holes from the end of February until mid-March, costing 360-410 yen.

Featuring cheese, chilli, onion, bacon and mustard relish, the Texas burger aims to bring a bite of America to Japanese fast food fans. Whether it’s in any way authentic, we have absolutely no idea. If any Texans out there would care to fill us in, we’d love to hear from you.

The Idaho burger (photo below), meanwhile, looks a little odd if you ask us. Complete with hash browns, onion, bacon and pepper relish, it certainly has a lot going on between its buns, and we can only imagine that the mixture of textures with each bite would take a little getting used to.

As well as these two creations, American barbecue style shakashaka seasoned potato fries, chicken nuggets with a creamy ranch dipping sauce, and blueberry shakes are also due to invade Japan during the next two months.

    I'm from Texas but have lost the "expert" status from being in Japan 30 years (ask me about sushi...?) and when I do go back to San Antonio I am too busy scarfing down tacos, refried beans, and enchiladas to go buy McDonald's.

    From the pic it does look like a good meal -- for two!

    Why can't they just have a large burger on a sesame bun with lettuce , tomato. cheese a little mayo, relish and ketchup and call it a real hamburger?

    Out of all the Big America burgers to revive, it had to be these two awful gut bombs. And since when is McDonald's "struggling"?

    I'm with Hunter, when I go back to Cali first thing I do is grub on some serious Mexican Food which will beat ANY McDonald's ANY day. As for this burger, I think that McDonald's Japan just randomly put these burgers together without thinking it through, they just pile on the ingredients and think they have created a great burger when ll they created was a tasteless monstrosity. I believe if you are attempting to create a decent burger, do it right. Hash browns or or Dijon mustard, sauce that is a light somewhat BBQ sauce is inferior. I just feel, they can do a better research to make a great burger, rather than just putting stuff together and thinking that's how we eat a burger I. The states. These burgers would never make it off the ground in America. I hope and pray that Japan will get it right and make a decent burger. The should bring a juicy McRib with all the trimmings. They could learn from that....

    With their steady growth and smoothly rising stock prices, McDonald's is hardly struggling in Japan.

    I agree with everything except the "mayo and relish??" Japan Miki Dees is doing quite well, I don't know how, but they are.

    Well I'm from Texas and I'm amazed that they can bring a burger that big to Japan and charge so little for it, from what I've heard of Japanese food prices.

    The mustard-relish thing is interesting.

    A real hamburger in Texas doesn't allow for mayonaise or ketchup, (not unless you're 4 years old or under), so as long as the relish in the mustard-relish is dill relish then I say "Heeee-haaa!"

    Sorry folks, no jalapeños?? No salsa?? What the hell kind of Texas burger are these J makudonaduro folk trying to pull?? And heck put in some GUACAMOLE or slices of avocado then you are getting close to what TEXAS is all about! Right amigos from the Lone star state??

    I am in the capital city of Austin with a motto of being weird , this burger is not a Texas original, not peppers nor salsa. I have not seen a burger like this in no city in Texas which have a multitude of burgers. Whataburger is a true Texan burger

    I've tried both and they're not bad, though you better prepare for the burps and regret later. There is no way these are even remotely connected to something in Texas or Idaho -- they are just (somewhat tasty) monstrosities created from ingredients those areas are well known for. Idaho potatoes -- hence the hash brown, etc.

That's because it is one of several items available on the "secret menu" at your preferred fast food restaurant. Just ask for it by name. It could take a personal loan to pay for your food budget this month.
