This year, the "sakura" (cherry blossoms) are scheduled to start appearing in Japan as early as March 20 and will slowly move their way north as the country begins to thaw after a particularly snowy winter.
Just one day after the appearance of the actual blossoms, McDonald’s will release a spring-inspired burger that takes a cue from the very sakura that Japan is so famous for. But with a pink-colored bun and sakura mayonnaise sauce, it’s unclear if the odd combination will be as well received as cherry blossoms and beer.
Officially called “Sakura Teritama,” the burger is filled with a fried egg, ginger teriyaki pork patty, lettuce and sakura daikon radish mayonnaise sauce. Oh, and don’t forget the pink bun.
McDonald’s Japan will also be selling a Sakura Cherry soda or float and will decorate each store with cherry blossom decorations.
So if winter in Japan has got you down, turn to your local McDonald’s for a bit of a spring pick-me-up.

Sorry for being such a person, I know it's totally Freudian , but I was sort of grossed out by this hamburger, and I don't think I'm going to put it anywhere near my mouth.

I might try the Sakura Cherry Float. By the way, Haagen Daz Sakura ice cream is delicioso!

Do people still eat at McDonald’s?
nath
Considering it keeps making record profits every year, it appears a lot of people eat there.

McDonald's has to make those Japan-only hamburgers because they face serious competition from MOS Burger and Lotteria, not to mention all those innumerable B-kyu gourmet restaurants.
sillygirl
hopefully they got rid of "American Vintage" it was not!!

oh god... did anyone look at what the bun looks like with pink in the middle... are marketing that stupid?

When I go into a mac outlet, I notice that at least half the customers have ordered the cheapest item on the menu and tend to camp out for hours on end. Is it still "fast food" if you're serving slow customers?

At Mos Burger the buns actually look like that and not like some squished pancake aka McD.

McD's is #1!

Mickey D's in Japan is good at adapting to ever-changing Japanese tastes, keeping up demand for their product, unlike in the US.

Not a big fan of Mac's but that looks like something I'd eat after a few beers rather than cook.

All completely natural, of course.

Even if people don't eat it, as it is unhealthy anyway, I commend McDonalds for their positive attitude and inspiring campaigns highlighting a time of year that many a Sakura fan anticipates whith an almost crazed ethusiasm.

That's not true, Mikey D's in the States do come up with their own periodicals, but in the states, their burgers are bigger thicker, juicier, Japan always puts these Frankenburgers together and when they DO get a semi-decent burger, it lasts for a month then it's gone. They fry their apple pies, unlike in the US that bake their pies. Also, it would be really nice if Japan's Mikey D's would have more chicken selections.

Compare that to the Japanese menu, it doesn't even come close.
