Do you think there will always be a demand for vinyl records?

That will depend on what you mean by the word "demand". Sure, there will be people who for some reason would like to have a vinyl, especially of older vinyl records, but what comes out now will be either on a CD or a digital file. I can't imagine many bands would like to make new vinyl records now.

There are two companies I know of in the United States who still produce 45RPM vinyl record versions of current hits for use in classic juke boxes. I believe there will always be a demand for those.

Yes, I believe there will always be a demand for vinyl records, just as there will always be a demand for cigarettes.

When you look at what is being downloaded legally (iTunes etc) it amazes me what is in the top 100 in downloads. =many are older hits =vinyl.

I can only assume that the value of older vinyl will go up. But how long can a vinyl record last --> longer than a cd it seems. I will go so far ad to say vinyl sales will surpass cd sales at some point 10-20 yrs from now. Edison was correct all along it seems and the cd is a dieing format.

Renting a cd is still cheaper than buying and downloading illegally is cheaper yet, however it is easier to find an artist on iTunes pay a minimal fee to get exactly what you want.

Vinyl is just a novelty for poncy DJ's to carry around and pretend they are some kind of a professional. Having said that, I still see people on the train with Sony Walkmans...remember them?

If people care for it, it will stay. Lot's of great DJ's still like the sound of vinyl, I don't care much for it. It will go eventually, when nobody cares about it any more.

Will they always be in demand? They haven't been in demand for years. Still made? Yes. In demand? You better stop kidding yourself

For any of you who know sound..there is a different quality to the sound of vinyl vs. cd's or digital files. Not just an opinion but studied science. Many people who play on good sound systems (not just loud ones) know the difference. Many of those "poncy" dj's really are professionals who are artists in there own right. Not all of course but the average person doesn't know a thing about what makes a dj an artist. It isn't about just playin' records. For those who know the music they play it is about the choices they make and the direction they take as well as knowing the sound.

I don't miss vinyl at all. Remember scratches? Even if you worked to keep your records scratch-free, there was always a chance someone would jar the record player and bingo - now you've got a scratch and a skip in the record. And then you're throwing that one out and buying another.
