The gals are doing lots better than the guys, who are kind of disappointing this year. What happened to "Boys be ambitous!"?. Too many herbivores around these days...
Before the games.... "However, they (Japan) have set a target of 15 golds for London, with the martial art of judo tipped to produce eight despite the lack of experience in the team."....
by their own account it would have to be disappointing
They've done very well. Unfortunately, the media, as usual, has hyped up the expectations so much that anything less than a gold means failure. If you watched the TV coverage in the first week of the Games, people were saying stuff like, "Japan can definitely expect a gold in XX" and "There are only two more games to play until the Women's Soccer team gets a gold medal." Well, how stupid can you be, really? You're setting yourself up for disappointment right from the start with inflated rhetoric and unrealistic expectations. I understand that there's a certain need to hype the Olympics but there's a fine line between that and deluding your way to failure.

According to my medal chart they came in 12th place out of 70 nations. That's not too bad.

They've done really really well in the bronze department.
But weren't they predicting a pot of gold? Their best ever gold medal tally (which I believe is 16)?
