I personally think picking out ties in the morning can be daunting for a Japanese Premier. Go with more reds and start being a jerk to get things done. Yellows and blues need to go for now.

If he's smart, he won't take the job. Other than that, if he doesn't concentrate on the economy first, he'll find himself mired in the same goo as Hatoyama found himself in.

Pro-LDP Media will be Kan's biggest challenge, otherwise he is a "good leader" unlike Hotoyama who was a "good man !"

In 2 months he'll be having fun having his pics taken, in 4 months he'll get no popular votes, in 6 months he'll age 5 years more than his present age. In 8 months, he'll say ooops, sorry I must leave office. Next PM, please!

To cut spending and to start cutting the debt. This means to do the unsavory thing of raising taxes but at the same time not killing the economy. Sooner or later this debt has to be handled or our money is going to be completely worthless. We will end up like North Korea whereby the just plunked off two zeros off their currency so if you had 300,000 won it became 3,000 won. Nice! Like to see how that plays here!

Japan are just lucky they don't print their currency with the prime ministers face stamped on it because the mint pressers and printers would have exploded long ago. I think his biggest challenge will be getting the chance to do what all Japanese prime ministers seem to do first up.....organise a trip to the White House to meet the U.S President.....but will he be in power long enough to accomplish this dream????

There will be a money or girl scandal in his cabinet. The media will focus on it but will ignore real issues such as the economy, allowing the whole governmnet to avoid making decisions.

Given the track record of the past four prime ministers, chances are not very well. His biggest challenge will be to regain public confidence in the government.
