I don't advise it for the usual reasons. When things are going well, it's fine. But when the relationship cools, things can become intolerable. There was a couple like that in my old office. After their relationship ended, they tried to avoid each other as much as possible. The elevator, kitchen, conference rooms - they all became arenas of tension.
Wish I could get some of that into my life.I don't know how many teachers I work with have married each other since I arrived, and at least two others married their ex-students.. :)
make sure it's a big firm and u don't work on the same floor or won't run into each other in the lunch room, or at the gym, and that no one person has authority over the other. u meet these criteria, i say fair game. don't be fooled. this means all hr staff is off limits too cuz they're the one's that do the hiring, etc.
Purely case by case. Some people can do it and it works well for them. Others being emotionally insecure, might fail at a relationship and due to those insecurities have a difficult time dealing with that person at work. Not everyone is emotionally secure unfortunately.
Unless it's at a large corporate campus -where there is little possibility of running into each other (after possible breakup) the old saying "Don't eat where you (defecate)" applies. Well, unless one or the other does not mind quitting their job.
I'm a Sales Manager of a large J corporation. I have no opinion but just some stories to share with you guys. My J colleague who had been eyeing for my post for some years, is now sleeping with my new boss, to get my job. My younger J collegue is sleeping with my customer to get infos on how come I'm so good at my job. My other J colleagues who are sleeping among themselves...hmmm, most relationships didn't go sour, but those which did, seem to just move on and get hook onto another man/woman within the same organisation or elsewhere...life goes on for them.
My friend once commented that my office is like a 'whore-house' but what can I do...this is Japan..! People get away with breaking the rules if they know how to kiss the right butts.....lol
Disillusioned: what she meant was don't mix business with pleasure....! Corporate office is not like a High School. We have stiff competitions. Some do things the straight way, some do things the crooked way....it's just part and parcel of life...hey, it's Friday night, I'd better get going. Life is too short to dwell over the J people romance at work...bye!
Hell no, there is nothing worse than having to watch co-workers get smoochy with each other. Have some consideration for the people that have to watch the melodrama unfold. It's like watching a bad soap that you can't switch off.
It was my impression that in Japan, workplace relationships were encouraged. OLs were employed as tea pourers, hostesses for parties, and potential brides for the company's salarimen. They could be married off in-house (so to speak) and the company would have a link (and therefore loyalty from) both husband AND wife.
But we're talking about 'workplace romance', so the above really apply does it? ;)
I had some unbelievable adventure at work with her and even she could not control her emotion at work so the HR transferred her to other branch. I am sure I was quite cool but... she is kind of not so pretty but with hot body girl.
It is bad enough you have to spend your whole day working with most people, but to socialise with them after work means you clearly have a drinking or personality problem. But to fall in love with one of them or actually start bonking the desperate in the back cupboard, that is really the road to misery. If you do, don't tell your spouse, the don't need to have their life ruined too.

Wrongly timed question when there is global economy meltdown and so few workplaces.

Proceed with caution, these office romance things are more trouble than they're worth, especially when jealous co-workers get involved....

forget those co-workers. hook up with your boss or your boss' wife. that would speed up your promotion and big bonuses too.

I'm a high school teacher, so it's probably inappropriate for me to comment.

I want some action at my workplace. Bring it on !!!!! Jealous o workers would get in the way. I would keep the relationship a secret.

I agree with Spidey but i still avoid office romance. I have seen too many good people's lives ruined because they just couldn't hold it together.
Take it where you can get it as long as its not in the office.

It might be okay. Then again, it might not.

Don't screw the crew...don't sh%t where you eat....plenty of idioms warning of the perils of dabbling with co-workers.

I like that idiom. My Grandmother used to say that to me...

I avoided these, but after years I think that is a waste to not try it. Life is to short.

Don't crap where you eat. Don't screw where you work. It's just better off for everyone in the long run.

Good if you are not married. If you are married you take your life in your own hands.

Wouldn't viewing romance at the workplace make that person a voyeur?
0

That sounds/reads a bit redundant.
