Stop recording music at all. Instead, create sound experiences that challenge the mind and inspire revolutionary impulses. Pursue the authentic in the now with music events for living. Look for the next generation of composers who will focus on true feelings in musical invention. Ditch the corporate music factories and live the life. Do it now!

Why would you get in to music in the first place if all you wanted was money?

Pretty much all artists, across the board, go through years and years of hardships trying to build their 'brand'. It takes a love of the music to push through these years, as there is usually very little money at this time. However, traditionally for many artists, the thing that helped them push through these years was the hope that there would be riches at some point in the future if they 'made it'. In other words, the dream of the future helped with the hardships of the present.

Good question but not relevant for Japan!
Basically there is no streaming service here - Spotify, Google music, etc. are not allowed on Japanese soil!

Take example from indie game developers, completely skip established companies and sell your music directly. Of course you'll have to do your own marketing, promotions, public relations and all. If you don't like doing that sorts of job, ask a friend who do, share the profit.

Indeed. How to keep a musician in jets and limos and 5 star hotels and mansions??

The music industry as a whole will go through a complete make over where labels will become things of the past since most people are dropping that option. It may become more closer to professional boxers where big wig promoters calls the shots recruiting bright newcomers or the professional baseball players/agents that climbs the ladder together as they promote throught various social medias with an ultimate goal to be picked up for heavy rotation on the RADIO. LoL

Before offering a "solution" to this problem, I would strongly urge anyone to view some interviews with Frank Zappa on the "music business."
@shallots: I liked your response. Since you were first to respond, it's obviously an issue you care about. So do I.
