Ten years from now, do you think smartphones will still be used and if so, what will we be using them for besides the way we use them now?

Wrong question... Read Gary Shteyngard's 2012s top selling book, and you will understand that smartphones will then be used by others and the state to check on you, your habits, your account and everything else, like knowing where precisely you happen to be.

Once it gets to Japan, the movie "Cloud Atlas" can also give you a hint about the real future...

Amazon employees carry devices that constantly monitor their performance and behavior. If they do something in an unapproved way, they're fired.

This approach will be extended to smartphones, which will be embedded as silicone implants in the back of our necks at birth, to be used by the state and corporations to strictly keep the 99% in line. If we slip up, we'll be punished, sent to prisons run by the same corporations that make the smartphones.

Speak or say when a restaurant or other business nearby has a sale or special, esp. something I like, and shut up if I tell it to. Tell me some funny jokes. Compile interesting news articles from around the world and read them to me if I like. Tell me if there are weather hazards like ozone, high UV, flash-floods, etc. Let me know if I'm in a high-crime area. Military-grade night vision. Radiation contamination detection (geiger counter). Be a wing-man. Universal translator. Have a built-in solar-charger. Tell me my health conditions by breathing on it. Have a pedometer. Tell me about a plant, etc. by photographing it. Be a used-car lemon-buster. Give me a recipe to make for the food I say is in my fridge. Study the routes I take and tell me if there's a faster or more scenic way. Be my personal trainer. Have wireless headphones that fit (and stay) in my ear. Work with cameras on my glasses, seeing what I see, to teach me how to do something from cutting a turkey to learning to dance.

Yes. We will be under the thumb of the state completely with smartphones used to track us, send us directives and generally brainwash us.

Scientists will find a way to have a "smartphone chip" embedded in the brain ... then users won't have to be bothered carrying them in their pocket or around their neck (necklace form) anymore.

Wouldn't it be nice to see people walking down the streets again without having them peering into their smartphones. Instead, they could tune in via their embedded chip and "watch" the smartphone action unfold within their brain. They would be more zombie-like than what they are now ...

As long as there are still brainless losers who walk around staring into a small screen that holds their virtual friends, the answer is yes.

Gianmarco. Sounds like the Tom Waits Song "Step Right Up". I think Tom was ahead of his time with that song. Check it out everyone (if you don't know it).
