Wearing a suit JACKET when it's blistering hot and jungle-like humid. They really need to match the clothes to the reality of the weather/climate here.
i used to work in a tropical country and during summer, several girls (including me, unfortunately) wore flip flops to work. we had a casual atmosphere in the office but i have to admit that wearing flip flops is a big no-no. never again.
In the company I used to work for one of the girls always came to work wearing mini-skirts that were so short you could see her panties when she sat down. The boss never complained about that, but men with beards was a big no-no.
Once i wore my bathing suit. It was a sunday in midsummer, nobody else was in the office and the building's air conditioning was turned off and there was no way to open a window.
I don't get why flip flops are a no but yet those nasty oyaji sandals with socks and a suit/dress is okay. Both are comfortable but why is one okay and not the other? I wore flip flops to school and got told off by a sandal wearing teacher (not my boss just a jerk who no one liked) for being too casual. When I pointed out HIS shoes he basically said his were okay, but not mine. No reason given. So I continued to wear them.
Women who wear heels to work. They are not comfortable and cause back pain. I was told I should wear them to work by a man. I laughed at him and suggested he spend an hour in them and see how he felt about his suggestion after.
This 'scarf in summer' thing - is it not the trendy man's version of the towel round the neck? I think you'll find the summer 'scarves' are made of thin terry towelling or some other absorbent material, and help stop sweat running down the back.
I wish you were right, Cleo, but the ones I see look like wool or silk to me. And then I have seen dudes couple that with a hat you would only wear when skiing or in winter. I swear some of these guys must not have blood. How could you be cold in this weather in Tokyo????
Interestingly enough, as much as the guys are covering up, I see women doing the sensible thing and walking around almost naked. Very short skirts, tank tops, etc.... Good for them!
Long jersey pants, log sleeves jersey jackets, black arm warmers, a hat of course for a little more sun protection and a thick towel rolled around the neck (the only part where the body can breathe), all this under a HOT bright and sunny summer day. What? Did I hear you saying atsui???
I have seen women running (okay, jogging at a snail's pace) with long sports pants and jackets (zipper up of course), those nasty pull down visors so you can't see their face and wide brim hats. Towels are a bonus as are gloves. Go to the gym if you want to run. No point in you being out in the sun dressed like that!!

Thankfully, it's gone out of fashion now, but some of the young women in my office used to wear jeans under their skirts.

My workplace is my study at home. I have been known to work wrapped in a bath towel.

Guys adorned with an astonishingly long fingernail only on their left pinky. Always creeps me out.

Laguna, that one long nail is intentionally left long for convenient nose and ear picking. A Chinese friend told me that once.

"a guy wearing a scarf"
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! That's on a par with the guy holding a parasol on a cloudy day.

Thanks, Cleo, but how are we supposed to concentrate on work with that image in our heads?

The man bag also gets me. As does the comb over.

@Marie:
Glad you agree on the fag bag!
And yes, flip flops with cute feet are sexy, not like those other plastic shoes
And the bar hair wipe is hideous

The t-shirt scarf thing gets me. If you need a scarf, put on a sweater!

If you wear a scarf make sure it has CPFC on it. The summer scarves are for silly boys who copy western fashions.

It's at minimum stimulating.
Strangest thing at work: all the women wearing blankets on their laps. All of them. I'm sweating and they're curling up with blankets.
