Well I'm not gonna avoid getting too drunk (I want people to know the real me) but to avoid getting bloated you should minimise all food intake. There are plenty of sugars, calories and other goodies in beer, wine and other fine alcoholic beverages to keep you going and performing at your best.
Talk a lot. Then you won't need to eat or drink much and will still look interested and enjoying your party mates' company.
But when everything is warican, then well, just enjoy the meals.
Eat plenty of mince pies, stollen and chocolates so that there is no room for the alcohol and it just flows right through before it has time to make you drunk..
Practise over many years to develop the drinking and party skills you need to go the distance, simple really,. Some of us have been in training for years and years.
A more useful thread would be "What is your most successful method of getting out of trouble, having already been phenomenally drunk at the Christmas party and not quite sure what you did after about 9:30?"

Give alcoholic beverages a less than starring role.
Smaller meals, more frequently.
Lots of dancing!

I make it a rule to avoid the "nijikai" or party after the party. I also try not to go out too many nights in a row. Getting old, I guess.

No risk for me. I can't stand alcohol long enough to get drunk (not that I'd want to). Only raw veggies make me bloated.

When the room starts spinning, and you throw up, and then you get a really bad headache, it really sucks.
