I always enjoy watching them, though they are too long. I thought it could have ended after the flame was lit. No need for Paul McCartney to sing "Hey Jude." Danny Boyle was obviously faced with a dilemma of how to give everybody a part in the opening ceremony -- McCartney, Beckham, JK Rowling, etc.
It was painful to see how Muhammad Ali has deteriorated.
It was an interesting ceremony and well done ... but I don't believe I would want to sit through it again.
I liked the James Bond bit in which he and Queen Elizabeth "parachuted" into the Olympic stadium as if on a 007 mission. And she went through the whole episode with a straight face.
Somebody mentioned elsewhere that the Queen appeared a bit grumpy during the ceremony. If so, it was probably because of the alleged spat between Prince William and his dad over Camilla's "evil" approach toward Kate. I noticed that Camilla sat on the far side of Charles, away from William, Kate and Harry who were in the row above them. According to the Globe magazine, William had ordered his dad to keep Camilla away from Kate ...
Organizing so many people and keeping the pace going for that length of time was a feat in itself. The show itself was brilliant. I wish I could have been there to see it.
I normally find some of the openings baffling, but this one was easy to follow and was just so beautifully produced. We had great music, Mr Bean, 007, even the briefest sound of the TARDIS... but for me the most moving part was when when the 200-odd 'petals' were raised to become one flame. I have never seen anything so powerful at a sporting event.
Well done to everyone to who took part... and Your Majesty? Give Danny Boyle a knighthood.
I wish the commentators would stop talking during the ceremony. 80% of what they say is completely useless. "Now he will ring the bell." said the guy on BBC. Yeah, we can see there is a big bell, and he's walking towards it. What else is he going to do, polish it? "Hanabe desu!" shouted the NHK announcer after the fireworks started, like he's just developed the ability to distinguish between colors in the night sky and the ice cream rack at 31 flavors. Thanks, but if I wanted someone to state the obvious, I would have hired a three-year-old child to provide commentary.
The queen and 007 bit was a nice twist and mr bean being the dithering fool bit were good, the NHS and the children in beds bit was way off the mark, whats sick kids got to do with olympics, if anything they should have given them the seats thats the sponsors arnt using.
Apart from a couple of bits the rest is a fail. They always try to show the nations history during these opening ceremonies, it would be good if just for once if they tried a different theme for a change. Its all been done to death before.

It was the first time I ever turned off the opening ceremony halfway through. The kids in the radioactive beds lost me.
