More intellectually philosophical than a matter of foreign policy.

The comments seemed a bit war-centric for what is generally expected at a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. I'm sure it made several in the audience and on the Nobel committee scratch their heads. But then, that's what they get for giving the award to an American president. It is fitting for an American to speak of war. It's what Americans do, and what their taxes pay for. I like Obama and think he spoke honestly about US policy. But was it appropriate for a Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech? The US hasn't been able to go through a single decade without beginning, instigating and/or participating in several wars. So I think the Nobel folks lost a bunch of credibility in bestowing the award on yet another American politician. (Then again, they gave Kissinger one so was there ever any credibility?)

Combini, you mean your country isn't one of the forty-two on board that he mentioned?

Credibility? Carter, Annan, Yasser Arafat... The committee has been outta their collective minds for years.

USAR, my country is the good ol' US of A and I have been paying for these wars since I was of the tax-paying age whether I like it or now. And my point is simply that if war is what the US is going to do, then it would have been disingenuous for Obama not to discuss it last night.

Combini, you don't contribute to the whole Federal budget for 'war'. Very little, in fact, compared to other government expenditures.

You also pay very little in taxes compared to socialist governments such as Japan and those that make up Eurabia.

But, if you think you pay too much in taxes for 'war' now, wait until you start kickin' in for 'free' universal health coverage. Prepare to grab your ankles.

"you don't contribute a whole lot to the Federal budget"

I think what Norway's Princess did says it all. Open to interpretation...

"you don't contribute a whole lot to the Federal budget"

Oh, I'm sure I paid for a bullet or two.

Combini, yeah, your overwhelming, unfair contribution to my country is noted.

"dont know didnt watch"

You could always read the text of his speech and then comment, lol.

Heck, if Bush had made those remarks, he'd be called a warmonger.

sarge,

just havent had a chance to check it out yet haha

Obama is a good speaker but he is unable to impress the odience of good listeners about this Nobel Peace (Prize) Scandal !

Hey Sarge,

It's kinda like the saying "Only Nixon could had visited China (at the time)" (for those not aware about this bit of US history, Nixon was very anti-communist China). So it is a bit of "who" as well as a bit of "what" was said. Though one does get the sense that Obama believes the Afghan war is a just war while the Iraq war is not (in line with his pre-President campaign promises to refocus policy towards Afghanistan away from Iraq).

Still, as I mentioned, it's more intellectually philosophical than a matter of foreign policy (bereft of particulars), like a professor talking to unite a reality with an ideal. (Heheh, like philosophy class all over again....)

I think I read what he said in Orwell's 1984: War is peace! Couldn't Obama be more original and less of a Big Brother?

warispeace,

That's impossible without the Patriot Act.

I agree with Sarge on this one.

Excellent. Made me glad the GWB and Cheney are just distant memories.

herefornow, if you really listened to the speech or read the text of it, President Obama said he is prepared to use military force unilaterally to protect America. I listend to the whole speech as he said it, as I was simultaneously postin' excerpts from it at the JT Olympics.

If you don't understand what he said above, it means President Obama doesn't care what you or the world thinks. He is prepared to use American military force and go it alone to do what he believes to be morally right, and the military option is right up there and the rest of world can go suck eggs.

GWB and Cheney are just distanct memories? -Not by that global speech.

Bwahahahahaha...

A most befuddles speech; once again trying straddle both sides of the issue. But estutely read from the teleprompter.

Barack...(grips mike handle) I'M COMING FOR YOU.

The Peace Prize was supposed to be a deterrent against future U.S. agressive action. But you are a figurehead, nothing more, nothing less, there's little point in getting angry with you personally.

It is the AMERICAN military machine/budget which must be stopped. And I am the man to do it. I give you two terms at best you pretty boy MC.
