I 'm not sure the word "DEEP' is an accurate description of this . . . . .. . . .However, I suppose it is not different from North American obsession with HOROSCOPES - --------- which are printed DAILY in every newspaper ( & Magazines) across Canad and USA a(nd perhaps the UK ,as well) ..
Well- clearly the '70's infatuation with 'new age-ism: is over; however, I was just in Toronto and the waiter {in some very posh restaurant } was jokingly giving customers advice as per their Zodiac sign . ..... It's now a coventional component of western consciousness . . ....not to mention the numerous Zodaic books . . ....... . .PLUS interest in Chinese Zodiac . . . . . .But perhaps more to the point is western interest and belief in PERSONALITY TYPES as per : Are you as "Type A" or "Type B" or 'Type C " personality?.
Quackery. Japanese people believe all sorts of weird things, like their intestines are longer than others, and sleeping without a blanket over your tummy will make you sick, etc....
I find it all rather silly, but I think one of the reasons the ole blood type thing comes up is people here do their best to HIDE whatever personality they may have, so people are left with blood types to make silly generalizations............
slumdog, yeah, that's my experience too. 20 years ago I got asked this quite regularly, and first time I was asked I didn't even know. I don't think anyone here has asked me my blood type in at least ten years.
It's been the subject of passionate discussions in my office a few times. I would hope that the teenagers and younger people growing up now can avoid being drawn into it, but otherwise intelligent and reasonable people I know in their 30s and up seem to lose that intelligence as soon as this topic arises.

But people no longer ask "What's your (zodiac) sign, man?" when they meet you. It no longer 1970's!
Daiso still has little Blood Type books. Or did a few years ago.
In last few years I've been asked "What's your blood type?" by Chinese and maybe Japanese.
How is it in Japan now?

Actually, I've found that less and less people seem to be interested in it than they would have been say 20 or 30 years ago.

And I've never been asked my blood type in over a decade in Japan.

Kabukilover
It's a silly superstition. I expect it will die off as Japan becomes more urbanized.

Seems like most of the profiles on actors/actresses on DramaWiki include their blood types.
