It is beyond excusable, it should be severely punished. It ruins innocent people's lives, and only unfairly furthers the stereotypes about train gropers in Japan.

Seperate railway carriages for men and women. In fact lets have different railway lines for men and women with different stations. The women's stations can all be painted pink and have train guards dressed to look like Korean actors, and the men's stations can have bars on the platform. Think of the money JR will make!

Much like accusations of rape, the groping issue necessitates a delicate balance between protecting real victims, and insuring that the accused are "innocent until proven guilty" and given the all the protections that due process affords.

    I like Boxcar's idea

I dont quite understand what this thread is getting at. I disagree with Women Only carriages - a lesbian paradise. I think if there are Women Only carriages here should also be Men Only carriages - to protect men from the many WOMEN GROPERS. I have been groped by a woman, and I kno many others who have also been groped by women. I have also seen a woman groping a Japanese salariman on more than one occasion. The fact that man are singled out in this way is nothing short of sex discrimination. Typical of Japan.

By the way - have any of you considered the fact that some people LIKE to be groped? Im not one of them - bt such people DO exist. Apparently, there is a website (Ive heard) where Japanese people share their groped-on-the-train experiences.

I think there should be a groping carriage, a Gay carriage, a bi-sexual carriage, a nudist carriage, a pet carriage and a henpecked salaryman carriage. If there is any space left, then that should be reserved for ordinary passengers.

What false accusations? If they happen, then I know how the accused must feel. "Boy, I wish I HAD groped her, since no-one believes me and I'm going to get done anyway."

Well Realist the people who like to be groped should wear a shirt saying so. I have been groped by a guy on a bike, while walking to the grocery store. I don't appreciated and if I knew enough rude Japanese at the time no one in Japan would have ever heard it louder.

If people like to be groped they should join a club and keep it in that club. In the case of women groping men, if they guys don't appreciate it they should report the women just like any woman should. I would hate to be culturally sexist but talking to the Japanese men I have they seem to be OK with any contact with a woman, of any kind.

I think that women who lie about men groping them need to be really groped so the know the feeling first hand (no pun intended) of having some strange stinky man with no sex life treat her like an object, a quick amusement. These women should have to become mentors to rape victims so they understand the people they really hurt, besides the wrongfully accused man who was probably just minding his business on his way to work.

"strange stinky man with no sex life treat her like an object"

There's some stinky females out there too. That's why I don't grope. It's unhygenic. You don't where those things have been.

I'm with buttamimi on this one: what a fantastic train that would be. Even just 'Groping' and 'Non-Groping' carriages might be fun.

Yeah M51T I hope those gropers caught a cold from touching people they don't know

Actually, I do believe Panasonic are bringing out a new electronically controlled chair, similar to the massage chairs that you see the old folks trying out in the stores at the weekend. It will be a Grope chair. You will be able to sit in it and a pair of electronically controlled hands will grope selected parts of the body. Trial versions are being tried out at various outlets. For more details go to gropeme.com

Police do their job always perfect, I mean believe woman even though she didnt see who really grab her. Feel sorry for us men that can spend 2-3 years behind bars for nothing. ("Oliver Twist" law in Japan). They should take fingerprints from grabbed womans skirt...Ouch...forgot, J people are angels and are not fingerprinted, so I was next to her too...Poor me

I think there is a song by Hall and Oates about this, isn't there? It goes something like:

Oh, oh, here she comes Watch out boy, she'll chew you up Oh, oh, here she comes She's a man hater

What is the antonym for misogynist, anyway? Feminist?

I guess anyone who would support false accusations of groping would also be in favor of affirmative action. "Yeah, we need these false accusations to make up for all the times when the gropers got away with it."

So, if I keep my hands up in the air, but, despite thinking of Margaret Thatcher taking a shower, am unable to control what goes on down below, and the train sways and I bruise some poor virgin, am I guilty of groping?

How about arrest people only if there is EVIDENE or corroborating THIRD PARTY or VIDEO testimony?

I don't believe people should falsely accuse people of groping, but I think there's a whole lot of groping going on that is for real. Hitting someone upside the head when it happens is more effective than any legal option, in my opinion, though some method of dealing with this legally is needed. As people say, though, evidence or witnesses should be required.
