What do you think David Bowie's musical legacy will be?

"Will be?" Even before he passed it already was. It is. There wouldn't be a Lady Gaga without David Bowie first. And that's just one example. The guy was an influence or progenitor for almost everything in rock post-Beatles. His legacy is there are still people copying the many, many things he did. There will be for quite some time.

He will be seen as the Picasso of late 20th Century music. A man whose art went through several periods, always changing, always challenging and always classy. Nice bloke as well.

^ Hey Joe, so you dismiss Bowie and his legacy because of that? Do you equally dismiss Germans and Germany because they were "into Nazism and Hitler?" It reminds me of my paternal grandfather that refused to have anything German or Japanese in his house. Never lifted a finger to stop them seventy years ago though, but still narrow-minded until the day he died.

Such a positive performer and influence-working on his music that he loved until just before his death !

Unfortunately, he'll be morphed into something bigger than he was. if you were a real fan of his, he will live on forever with you. If you weren't, you'll move on to something that you like! Yes. That's it. Who is left that has this kind of cultural influence, originality, innovation, artistic vision, etc.? Dylan is around. The Stones. The last Beatles aren't anything too much besides Beatles. Maybe John Cage or Stockhausen were the last composers to affect people on a large scale. Lee Perry is still alive. I can't say there is a great movie director living like Hitchcock...who affected the way we see a medium. I don't think Godard or Woody Allen quite get there. I don't know. Bowie was Bowie and that's his legacy. Who else do people think have this kind of scale of artistry?

Bowie was one of the greats, for sure. Great songwriter, and wonderful imagery. Yet, I appreciate him most for bringing recognition to Iggy Pop. Bowie was planned and calculated, while Iggy was just raw. They were a perfect yin and yang.

Second only to the Beatles...

He came, he saw and he created. A very rich life indeed.
