What do you think of beauty contests such as Miss Universe and Miss World? Are they anachronistic in this day and age?

They're not my personal cup of tea, but it is nice that society occasionally reflects what men want.

If it wasn't for the heartfelt pleas for world peace they'd be anachronistic.

They're globalist garbage.

Yes, but I can't stop myself from watching them.

'If it wasn't for the heartfelt pleas for world peace they'd be anachronistic.'

Don't forget love of children.

Can't say I'm the least bit interested in them, but if painted ladies want to parade around in swimsuits and men want to look at them, why not. Each to his/her own. They do seem to be a bit of a throwback, though.

As long as there are women willing to do it, I think it's fine

Gives a young woman growing up something to aspire to.

I think its stupid they way its set up & all a pile of crap!

What should be done is BE HONEST & just have a beauty contest, forget al the BS the contestants LIE about, just get up & strut & pick a damned winner.

If you want another contest about young peoples aspirations etc by all means do so but TOSS OUT the beauty part.

The fixed for you all!

@GW

Good point. You never here Mr Universe droning on about kittens and med school....

It could be quite refreshing to hear a contestant telling she thinks world peace is a load of lefty hippie bollocks and she believes in bombing the hell out of anyone who disagrees with her country followed by her reasons for not wanting noisy, expensive brats screwing her life and finances up. They could debate these topics and score points following with the swimsuit parade.

Rubbish. Streets of all countries that compete have plenty just as beautiful women in them who don't want to submit themselves to this humiliating nonsense.

In today's freewheeling online atmosphere, their state of overdress is decidedly anachronistic.

Not as long as they're making sales numbers.

No, I don't like Miss Universe.

But I also don't like mayo with chips and I have no right to tell others to stop doing either.

It's low hanging fruit to mock the contestants who enjoy competing and the work leading up to it. Are these contests more meaningless than video games or social network sites or watching sports? I don't know, let people do what they enjoy!

Anachronistic? Good looks never mattered more than these days.

Beauty is subjective so a competition between people based on looks is never going to be conclusive. Apart from that, is there really a point in judging a woman purely on her looks? A vapid airhead with good looks is still a vapid airhead.

If these woman wish to compete like this, I'm not going to stop them but the whole idea of trying to find one woman that looks better than any other, especially given my first point, seems pointless.
