What do you think of gatherings like G-8 and G-20 summits? Do they ever achieve anything tangible?

When have they ever achieved anything tangible. It is just a chance to eat some caviar and drink some fine wine. They even created an artificial lake in / around the hotel. Like the real ones 30 minutes away are not good enough! The hubris of our leaders astonishes me.

Everyone has their own agenda and acts in their own country's interests, so have very little faith in the leaders who attend these summits. Only when we face some kinda of imminent catastrophe will we ever seen some kind of concerted effort.

These things do bleep all. Absolute waste of tax payers money... why else would the public host bash everything in sight. From what I remember the Canadians were pissed about the Winter Olympics and cant blame them as its such a high taxed commonwealth. Its reported (G20) to cost a $1,000,000,000. Waste. Waste....

I live in Canada and I have to ask why we would host this thing knowing the violence it brings and especially with a price tag of over 1 billion dollars to keep these people safe.Their are WAAAAAAY better ways to spend a billion dollars.This is elitist garbage.My taxes are paying for this?Unbelievable.Looks like my days of paying taxes are over....screw em

Their influence waned at the end of the oil embargo nearly 30 years ago (when it was the G6). The problem with the G-groups is they elect to not agree to anything - except to accepting bribes or being influenced by wealthy lobbyist.

What a waste of time and money. Don't these people know how to use their e-mail? And what did they start the UN for anyways? OK, seriously, we have so many important issues to deal with in this world, with limited resources...there is nothing in the G8 or G20 that furthered the causes of humanity. This photo-opping has got to stop, and the news media has got to stop encouraging them. Get on with the business of ridding the world of war and poverty!
