Did Microsoft ever improve on their DOS OS? Personally, I try to avoid as much contact with Microsoft as I can. Not easy, I must admit, but I try.

$30 for the upgrade, direct from Microsoft for the 64-bit Professional version. No complaints here. Considering Office 2007 Ultimate was $60, this was a deal for me.

XP and Windows 2000 still work fine for me. Alas there is more and more software that does not work with older versions of windows. What does XP do that Windows 2000 doesnt? Threading? Couldn't threading have been added to Windows 2000 as a Service Pack? It is a shame that the newer version of Windows can't be implemented as service packs rather than as a new framework that requires reinstallation of all ones software.

On the other hand, the 64 bit version of Windows 7 may be worth upgrading to. One can use lots and lots of memory (up about 30GB with 64bit as opposed to 3GB with 32bit?).
